The El Camino Real Chronograph is an absolutely new timepiece created by Wyler Geneve. The watch crafted in black ceramic has been inspired by one of the world's most legendary routes - El Camino Real. In fact, the creation of the timepiece involved a whole new project conceived by the high-end Swiss watch company. In 2007, Wyler Geneva acted as Official Timekeeper of an expedition from Paris to Beijing, having followed an adventure of a 100-year-old car - the 1907 Itala that won the very first Peking to Paris race one hundred years ago.
It is remarkable that the century-old car travelled over 10,000 miles and finally arrived in Beijing with no serious incidents. This exciting experience inspired the company for exploring other legendary routes around the world.
El Camino Real has been destined to become the first route selected by Wyler Geneva. They invited Francesco Carrozzini, a talented young photographer and film-maker, to join the project.
The photographer personally followed historical West-coast route from Los Angeles to San Francisco. He documented the entire adventure in his personal style, having taken photographs capturing the unique atmosphere of the breathtaking landscapes.
On the May 30 2008, at the Palms Hotel's exclusive GSuite, Francesco Carrozzini held an exhibition of his El Camino Real photographs. Wyler Geneva has highly appreciated the results of his creative work and launched a new chronograph devoted to the legendary route.
The new Wyler Geneve El Camino Real watch boasts a scratch-resistant black ceramic case with truly masculine appeal.
The El Camino Real chronograph accommodates a Swiss-made self-winding movement offering a 42-hour power reserve. The mechanism is equipped with a personalized Wyler Geneve rotor crafted in drilled blackened heavy metal, featuring rhodium-plated bevels for the holes and a Wyler Geneve engraving.
The movement is found inside a titanium container fixed by a carbon-fibre frame and placed on springs between two matt black ceramic plates. This original construction forms the shock-absorbing sprung case elaborated for all models of the brand. It also incorporates the patented crown protector in black ceramic.
The dark titanium screws and pushers have been given Diamond-like carbon (DLC) treatment.
The Wyler Geneve El Camino Real watch is secured to the wrist on a black rubber bracelet with the one-of-a-kind Wyler Geneve pattern and a new fold-over clasp. The chronograph watch provides 50-meter water-resistance and will be available with a two-year manufacturer's warranty.
At Baselworld 2008 held in April, Wyler Geneve has unveiled some other remarkable timekeeping creations - the world's first CarbonNeutral watch, the Wyler Geneve GMT, as well as new Tourbillon and Power Reserve models.
