Vacheron Constantin
Vacheron Constantin has decided to mark the 55th anniversary of the birth of its ultra-thin Calibre 1003 by unveiling a newly designed version of the movement.
Calibre 1003, that tops the list of the most beautiful and refined ultra-thin movements ever created, has been challenging mechanical laws for more than 50 years.
The process of the movement production is extremely sophisticated and the most highly qualified Vacheron Constantin specialists are responsible for its adjustment.
The redesigned version of the caliber is still the
slimmest movement available, with its 1.64 mm thickness and 21.10 mm diameter.
The finishing of the caliber has become even more refined, with its bridges and mainplate sculptured from 18K gold. The 117-part movement operates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour. The tiny movement provides more than 30 hours of power reserve.

The
Historiques American 1921 watch, created by
Vacheron Constantin, won the highly coveted
2009 Watch of the Year Prize as voted by the jury panel of "
Montres Passion" watch magazine.
The Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 watch was premiered at the 2008 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). The timepiece pays homage to the signature 1920s cushion-shaped watch that featured a cushion-shaped case. It was created by request of an American collector.
The watch catches the glance by its off-set winding crown found at 1 o'clock. The vintage-styled dial demonstrates diagonal orientation. The dial is adorned with an eggshell textured sandblast finish. It is completed with stylized Breguet numerals, and black oxidized gold-crafted Breguet hands. Watch lovers will notice the brand’s signature Maltese cross logo, sculptured in 18K pink gold, the same as the case.

Uninformed retailers represent a huge problem for watch manufacturers. It is explainable by the fact, that luxury timepieces are extremely complicated not only in terms of their functionality, but also with regard to knowledge of the brand, the way of construction, as well as all little details, which are vital in the personality of the watch.
Additionally, the problem is aggravated by the cultural and language barriers, which draw apart people at the timepiece manufacture as well as those employees, who are in charge of selling products in different parts of the world.
To improve the situation, the acclaimed watch-making houses arrange special training sessions, aimed not only at delivering information about the brand’s latest releases to retailers, but also at familiarization of the retail staff with the manufacture itself.
The Swiss watchmaker
Vacheron Constantin has recently conducted two training seminars, in US and Europe, to keep its select retail partners informed on all the new steps the company made.
A thriving watch company with the rich history, Vacheron Constantin gives a professional review of the changes, which occurred in the world of horology, and those things, which remained permanent.
Personal training, provided to the retailers by the brand, happens to be the most effective instrument of education. It assures the high level of proficiency among the retailers as well as enables them to introduce the luxury timepieces in the best possible manner.

The celebrities of the past used to present each other with engraved luxury watches as a sign of their affection and respect. Later on, the most attractive models were closely watched if they appeared at auction.
This tradition will be probably brought back by
Antiquorum’s latest “Important Collectors’ Wristwatches” auction, where a
1954 Vacheron Constantin Ref. 4877 watch, gifted by
Zsa Zsa Gabor to
Marlon Brando will show up.
Sculptured in 18k gold, this model case incorporates a hand-wound movement. Mr Brando was given this timepiece as a present on the theatrical release of “
On The Waterfront,” a movie bestowed with many prizes, with the best actor for Marlon Brando and the best picture among them. This award was an eloquent recognition of Brando’s acting talent.
The watch features an engraving, represented by the short message to Brando from Gabor and the date. Such timepieces are high regarded objects both for
Vacheron Constantin collectors and those enthusiasts attracted to Hollywood items from a period in American Cinema, which seems to be more romantic and simple.

The universally famous watchmaker
Vacheron Constantin has recently opened its
newest flagship store, which sprawled at 1881 Heritage, the renovated area of one of Hong Kong's renowned government buildings. The new boutique’s luxurious interior is distinguished by quiet understatement. This special store even offers after-sales services, rendered by a Swiss watch-maker.
To commemorate the establishment the new flagship boutique in Hong Kong and to pay homage to its long history with China, the Swiss watch-making house was proud to unveil an
exceptional limited series of
3 "Dragons" watches.
Every model is restricted to just
9 individual items to be commercialized solely and exclusively at 1881 Heritage in Hong Kong, Vacheron Constantin Mansions in Geneva & Shanghai and Vacheron Constantin boutique in Moscow.
The
dial of every watch from this edition, demonstrating a dragon, which is a Chinese symbol of wellbeing and divine strength, is embellished with a
hand-crafted Metiers d'Art ancestral Guilloche work. This motif is generated by alternating usage of two machines: the first is meant for engine-turning straight lines, while the second one is intended for curving and circling as if on a lathe. The successful union of these two techniques resulted in developing totally unprecedented non-geometrical patterns.
Thus, the design employs the
enchanting combination of irregular lines and
countless components, featuring variously colored metallized treatments. It definitely takes Guilloche to new heights: it ascends to the level of a figurative art, outgrowing its conventional role as an abstract geometrical embellishment.
The
Grand Opening will also offer an exclusive opportunity to admire some unique antique watches, displayed from the Vacheron Constantin heritage line in Geneva. Every exceptional model mirrors Vacheron Constantin's rich history.
The brand’s first timepiece, an
enamelled dial pocket watch, manufactured in 1755 by the founder himself, Jean-Marc Vacheron, will appear among the most respectable exhibits.
From September 4th through September 6th, guests of the boutique will get a personal perspective of the first masterworks’ unique designs, which contributed to originating of such
Vacheron Constantin's current watch lines as
Patrimony, Overseas, Malte, Overseas, Historiques and
1972.
