Vacheron Constantin Malte Moon Phase and Power-Reserve Watch

Aug 04, 2009
The Vacheron Constantin iconic Malte line has been enriched by a new timepiece – the new Malte Moon Phase and Power-Reserve watch. The zest of the watch is its ultra-sophisticated new dial that demonstrates five different finishes.

The case of the watch is sculptured in 18K white gold or 5N pink gold and boasts the signature tonneau or “barrel” shape. The case is of generous dimensions, measuring 39x49mm in diameter, and incorporates original fan-shaped lugs. The case-back is satin-brushed and secured by screws. The glareproofed cambered sapphire crystal protects a harmonious dial in silvered gold.

The dial provides perfect readability. The hours and minutes are indicated by facetted dagger-shaped hands. The dial of the timepiece
is completed by nine hour-markers, two Roman numerals and a Maltese cross, all in 18K white or pink gold.

The five different finishes featured by the dial reflect highly skilled craftsmanship of its creators.

The inner zone of the dial is adorned with a silvered, finely guilloche “Clous de Paris” or hobnail motif performed by hand. The outer zone demonstrates a vertical satin-brushed finish, also silvered.

The power-reserve display, the minute circle, and the inscriptions Vacheron Constantin Geneve and Swiss Made are all transferred.

The seconds sub-dial positioned at 6 o’clock is circular satin-brushed, while the minute-circle and power-reserve fields are screen-printed in white. The moon-phase display incorporates a disc with a galvanised base and a moon face crafted in 18K white gold or pink gold.

The new Vacheron Constantin Malte Moon Phase and Power-Reserve watch, reviewed by, accommodates the hand-wound 1410 calibre developed and manufactured by the watchmaking house. The movement is crowned by the prestigious Hallmark of Geneva, a guarantee of exceptional quality provided by movements born in the finest Geneva workshops, and boasting meticulous hand-crafted finishing.

The movement has the mainplate with circular-grained sides and the drawn out edge. The movement bridges are also carefully drawn out and beveled and decorated with a Cotes-de-Geneve motif.

Calibre 1410 provides a 40-hour power reserve, as well as a high-precision moon-phase display, with no need for setting for over 100 years. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

The Vacheron Constantin Malte Moon Phase and Power-Reserve watch is teamed with a black square-scaled alligator-leather strap for the white gold model and a chestnut brown strap for the rose gold model. The straps are fitted with a gold folding clasp. The timepiece is 30-meter water-resistant.
