This year, Ludovic Ballouard, a gifted French watchmaker, has introduced its first watch, christened Upside Down. He successfully met the challenge of creating an exceptional fun timepiece, reliable and easy to fix at the same time.
This horological novelty acquired such an intriguing name due to a particular upside down manner of arranging numerals on the dial. It is applied to all the figures, except for the one, which serves to indicate the right hour.
This way of time telling is a true advantage for the watch, equipped with a single hand. The black dot is exposed next to the right numeral in order to ensure the maximum readability of time and to produce a brighter contrast between this very figure and its eleven “capsized” siblings. As soon as the hour is coming to its end, a half-rotation of the disc with the figure turns the latter upside down.
Simultaneously, the disc with a figure of the starting hour revolves half-way to display the numeral in the customary manner. When the figure takes an upside down position, the black dot is concealed below the thick bezel.
This mysterious dial is manufactured from painted brass. The display features no minute graduations, which makes reading the minutes a bit difficult at the beginning. However, it is a matter of habit. The dial is also equipped with the seconds counter, fitted with a blued steel hand.
The hand, pointing to the hours, is manufactured from the same material.
The dial is housed in a 41 mm case, distinguished by its curved sides. The appealing case of the Ludovic Ballouard Upside Down watch is rendered in platinum, the same as the crown and the buckle.
