The new line of
Artists’ Series watches was created by the brand of
Movado to remind of the psychedelic 60’s. Based on the
Museum Face architecture, the dials of the watches from the Artists’ Series feature true pieces of art, which is uncommon for Movado: this watchmaker usually produces such watch dials blank.
Surprising as it may seem,
Kenny Scharf was a child in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, the period of time his paintings are very much associated with. He earned his fame much later, in the 1990’s. Since then, Scarf has been considered to be a pop/fine artist.
The Movado specialists have opted for
six Scharf paintings and used their miniatures for the dials of the watches from the unique limited series collection. The latter is restricted to just 125 pieces for every model.
Each timekeeper
case, sculptured in stainless steel, features a conventional case-back.
Every timepiece is animated by a
Swiss quartz movement and fitted with a sapphire crystal.
Attached to these watches are
two leather straps: the first is performed in a custom color and the second one echoes the colors of the dial, changing with every model.
The brand of
Movado has proposed exclusive Artists’ Series limited series timepiece lines since 1987.

The Swiss watch-making house
Omega has officially released its
Omega 2009 Constellation watch line to the
Asian market.
The famous actress
Zhang Ziyi, an ambassador for the brand, was actively involved in the process. The event was held in the company’s new flagship boutique, located in the chic SOGO department store in Shanghai. Shortly afterwards, a festive concert took place at Shanghai Concert Hall.
Stephen Urquhart, Omega president, showed Ms. Ziyi into the premises. Not only as an Omega ambassador, she was appointed in 2008, but also as a dedicated Omega watch lover, Zhang Ziyi was really interested in seeing the inside of the watch-making world.
This beautiful lady and outstanding actress, having starred in such films as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "The Road Home" and "Memoirs of a Geisha", was offered a unique opportunity she enthusiastically grasped: sitting at the watch-making bench, she partially assembled a mechanical movement, instructed by the watchmaker from the
Omega Company.
According to Ms. Ziyi, the core values of Omega such as credibility, achievement and pioneering spirit, coincide with those of her own. She is honored to be associated with Omega, for this company has a strong foothold in China, having started its activity in the country in 1895.
The box of the
Omega Constellation watch will expose the autograph by Zhang Ziyi to be performed in a drawing at the Omega headquarters, based in Shanghai.
The brand’s values and its creations’ advantages were also successfully presented through the concert. The elegant banners, demonstrating the Omega Constellation timepiece with an image of the graceful Zhang Ziyi against a background of cherry blossoms, were exposed above the red carpeted stairway, leading to the Shanghai Concert Hall.
The work of the illustrious fashion photographer
Mario Sorrenti, this picture will represent a part of the brand’s 2009 communication campaign for the Constellation line. In the course of the concert the audience could enjoy the music from
"Bell at Dawn, Drum at Dusk", accompanying a multi-media presentation, which demonstrated the Omega Constellation timekeeper arising from the images of the universe and the tiniest patterns of the stars.
As to the human stars, a number of the brightest ones have become ambassadors for the Omega brand. Beside Zhang Ziyi, Omega fruitfully cooperates with the actors

The famous watch-making house of
Hermes has created a novel
Arceau watch, having gathered its inspiration from the equestrian world.
The timepiece
case is prolonged with a steel stirrup. Its integrated asymmetrical lugs fix a strap finished with a folding clasp. The numerals on the timepiece dial are performed in a charming sloping manner.

Sarpaneva Korona K3 Black Moon watch, the honorable jury of the famous
Red Dot design competition has bestowed this model with the
2009 Communication Prize.
This timepiece has been created by the Finnish watch manufacturer

moon phase indicator, which renders the idea of melancholy and contemplation. A special dial, featuring no excessive details, enables the wear to see the entire moon phase cycle, embracing the new moon elusive period.
Sculptured in stainless steel, the Sarpaneva Korona K3 Black Moon timepiece case measures 44mm and reveals a black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) treatment. The model is animated by an
automatic Soprod A10 movement, altered by Sarpaneva for the moon phase complication.
The movement features the balance wheel, moving back and forth at the rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The watch offers a
42-hour power reserve. Rendered in stainless steel, the central winding rotor has a white gold mass for extra weight. Its face exposes a hand-made engraving, which successfully duplicates the expression presented in the oxidized silver moon discs.

The celebrities of the past used to present each other with engraved luxury watches as a sign of their affection and respect. Later on, the most attractive models were closely watched if they appeared at auction.
This tradition will be probably brought back by
Antiquorum’s latest “Important Collectors’ Wristwatches” auction, where a
1954 Vacheron Constantin Ref. 4877 watch, gifted by
Zsa Zsa Gabor to
Marlon Brando will show up.
Sculptured in 18k gold, this model case incorporates a hand-wound movement. Mr Brando was given this timepiece as a present on the theatrical release of “
On The Waterfront,” a movie bestowed with many prizes, with the best actor for Marlon Brando and the best picture among them. This award was an eloquent recognition of Brando’s acting talent.
The watch features an engraving, represented by the short message to Brando from Gabor and the date. Such timepieces are high regarded objects both for
Vacheron Constantin collectors and those enthusiasts attracted to Hollywood items from a period in American Cinema, which seems to be more romantic and simple.

Just as well Longines was the
Official Partner and
Official timepiece for the Badminton World Championships that occurred in Hyderabad (India), on August 10th through August 16th, 2009.
Within the framework of the event in question, this Swiss watchmaker introduced the
Longines Master Collection Moon Phases watch. The latter is a result of intensive efforts made by Longines’ highly qualified designers. The watch is animated by an automatic mechanical movement.
This graceful chronograph demonstrates a
silver-plated dial, featuring a fine barleycorn design, which enlarges the Moon Phases display. This timepiece also reveals sub-dials, the date and the small seconds located at 9 o’clock, a double display intended for the day and month placed at 12 o’clock. This very model has a transparent case-back, which shows off the fascinating details of the movement. The watch comes with a brown alligator strap.
Longines has been known for its long-term involvement in equestrian sports, gymnastics, Alpine skiing, tennis, short-track and archery - the sports distinguished by gracefulness, exactitude and traditions.
Now the brand has entered the sport, which requires perfect physical shape, an acute tactical awareness and undoubtedly high precision. Thus, the badminton matches
Longines core values – exactitude, traditions and gracefulness, which have been affirmed for over 175 years.
The
history of badminton dates back to 1873, when some English officers got together in the castle, located in the village of Badminton (UK). Since their meeting took place shortly after they had come back from India, they were discussing an Indian game dubbed “poona”, which was played with a racket and a low-weight ball. With no ball at their disposal, the officers used a cork stuck with feathers instead. Thus, there appeared a new game, called badminton!
Nowadays, lots of people dedicate their spare time to playing this game, which is regarded both as great fun and a demanding Olympic sport.

The horological company
A. Lange & Sohne, of Glashutte, based in Germany, has just introduced a novel rose gold interpretation of the famous
Lange 31. The latter, offered in a platinum case, made its original appearance two years ago. Afterwards, a major designer
Martin Schetter in collaboration with his design team got down to developing a new version of the model.
They invested more than two years of painstaking effort in creating a novel interpretation. Such lengthy period of work is easily explained by the brand’s attention paid to every little detail in terms of quality and design. The results are always worth waiting for, since
A. Lange & Sohne is notable for its spectacular watches all over the world.
The
Lange 31 watch is the first mechanical timepiece in the world, able to offer a
31-day power reserve, as well as a constant-force escapement, which provides the going train with constant torque delivery.
The huge amount of energy, necessary for the timepiece to function properly, is delivered to the movement by means of a winding key and stored then in a twin mainspring barrel. Thus, the balance gets an equal amount of energy every ten second, irrespectively of the state of wind of the springs.
The
movement, boasting such a respectable power reserve, measures 37.3 mm in diameter and is 9.6 mm thick. The case of the
Lange 31 model is oversized. Actually, this is the largest watch ever proposed by A. Lange & Sohne.
The brand’s timepiece cases are usually from 38 to 42mm wide and from 9 to 14mm thick. The case of the model in question features the dimensions of 45.9 mm x15.9 mm, with the width and thickness indicated respectively.
