Previously placed in a corner of the Chopard stand, this year at Baselworld de Grisogono presented its latest novelties in its very own showcase, surrounded by the most renowned luxury names. The brand's space at the show spread over 560 square metres. Sitting on a metal structure weighing about 30,000 kilos, it is enveloped in a giant jewel composed from a great number of black diamonds, each with a luminous diode in its centre representing a white diamond. The two de Grisogono symbols!

In 2008 the brand joins the circle of great watchmakers, having unveiled two outstanding watches: Meccanico dG with a digital time display driven by a mechanical power supply; Otturatore with a mobile dial.

Baselworld 2008: Chopard Ring with Biggest Chameleon Diamond

In 2007, Chopard acquired the world’s biggest chameleon diamond weighing 31.31 carats. The chameleon diamond enters an elusive category of green diamonds. It possesses the extraordinary property of changing color. If you heat it for a few seconds or plunge it into darkness, its beautiful olive green is in no time transformed into a rich, almost bright bronze-yellow.

Now Chopard reveals the biggest chameleon diamond at the centre of a ring, surrounded by yellow diamonds. The fine jewellery creation, designed by Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, has been presented at Baselworld 2008.

The chameleon ring features the oval cut of the diamond with a delicate pave setting of tiny yellow diamonds.

Alpina - Swiss Watches Since 1883

In 1883, there was founded the Association of watch manufacturers and retailers that gradually evolved into Alpina. The members of the association named themselves affectionately the 'Alpinists'.

With help of highly qualified manufactures, the Association initiated the development of its own calibers and enlarged its distribution network. Ebauches were produced by the Alpina Ebauche Factory in Geneva owned by Duret and Colonnaz, which greatly contributed to the construction of the first Alpina calibers.

Final steps in the manufacture of the calibers were taken in Bienne, the place of the headquarters of the Association as of 1890.

In 2001, Piaget constructed a new manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, the suburbs of Geneva. The site shaped like a circle symbolizes a watch dial. Visitors enter the main building via a footbridge reminding the hand of the watch. The architectural concept pays much attention to light, due to large bay windows. Wood is much used both inside and outside, valued as a natural material that 'does not injure the precious metal, symbolizing the jewel-case.'

Piaget transferred more than forty specialist professions on-site, including gem-setting, machining bracelets and cases, polishing, assembly, casing-up and adjustment. A dedicated prototype workshop and an after-sales service are also there.
