Uninformed retailers represent a huge problem for watch manufacturers. It is explainable by the fact, that luxury timepieces are extremely complicated not only in terms of their functionality, but also with regard to knowledge of the brand, the way of construction, as well as all little details, which are vital in the personality of the watch.
Additionally, the problem is aggravated by the cultural and language barriers, which draw apart people at the timepiece manufacture as well as those employees, who are in charge of selling products in different parts of the world.
To improve the situation, the acclaimed watch-making houses arrange special training sessions, aimed not only at delivering information about the brand’s latest releases to retailers, but also at familiarization of the retail staff with the manufacture itself.
The Swiss watchmaker
Vacheron Constantin has recently conducted two training seminars, in US and Europe, to keep its select retail partners informed on all the new steps the company made.
A thriving watch company with the rich history, Vacheron Constantin gives a professional review of the changes, which occurred in the world of horology, and those things, which remained permanent.
Personal training, provided to the retailers by the brand, happens to be the most effective instrument of education. It assures the high level of proficiency among the retailers as well as enables them to introduce the luxury timepieces in the best possible manner.

It has been 120 years since the
Longines logo, still used by the famous St. Imier watchmaker, was registered.
To celebrate this anniversary, the brand has arranged a special exhibition in the
Cite du Temps in Geneva, published the history of a symbol, as well as produced two limited edition watches, featuring individual numbers from 1 to 120.
At a press conference, held within the framework of this festive event, the floor was given to
Brigitte Bolli Jost, Brand Registration Responsible at the Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, and
Francis Gurry, the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization. They brought up the burning subjects of both national and international challenges, intellectual property and the necessity for the trademarks to be protected.
According to
Walter von Kanel, President of Longines, on registering the factory trademark in 1889, the brand did everything in its power to provide the proper protection for its name and signature. Referring to the data of the United Nations special agency, this 1889 trademark happens to be the oldest one, still used in the form it originally appeared.
The
exhibition, which is conducted at Cite du Temps in Geneva, reflects the way this trademark was adopted and protected. The showpieces embrace historical
Longines watches and original documents, which trace the development of a logo and the emergence of the watch-making traditions.
The exhibition welcomes visitors from Friday, October 2nd through Sunday, November 1st, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Baselworld is definitely taking an advantage of the depressed economy situation: a considerable number of world-famous brands have narrowed down their exhibition participation exclusively to this
World Watch and Jewellery Show.
Arranging
Baselworld 2010, which will be held from March18th to March 25th, is already underway. The number of the illustrious brands, which have been registered to take part in the coming show, is impressive. This event is really indispensable as regards to providing incentive in the
luxury goods industry.
Having turned down the possibility to take part in other shows, lots of eminent manufacturers do their best to prepare for Baselworld. It is crucial for the marketing budgets to be used in the most effective way, especially under the unstable economic conditions. Basel happens to be the best place for achieving this goal, since the show is arranged for highly professional visitors and buyers.
According to
Christoph Wellendorff, Managing Director of Wellendorff, Baselworld allows the brands to exhibit their creations in the best possible way. He also added that only in the course of this very show, the companies could associate with their key specialist dealers from all the parts of the world and introduce all the novelties from their collections to the jewelers.
Thus, this concentration process undoubtedly consolidates the position of the World Watch and Jewellery Show. Its management, however, does not aspire to attract a huge number of exhibitors.
Sylvie Ritter, Show Director of Baselworld comments, that they prefer quality over quantity and besides, their target is to provide enough space for the brands to unveil their products.
Alongside with the acclaimed brands,
Baselworld also welcomes young companies that demonstrate an extremely high level this show has achieved.

Shortly after
Audemars Piguet had entered into a partnership with the legendary
Bolshoi Theater, Svetlana Zakharova, a graceful star of the
Bolshoi Ballet and Opera was appointed a new ambassadress for the brand.
According to Audemars Piguet CEO,
Philippe Merk, the company is proud to be associated with Svetlana Zakharova, who is regarded as the best dancer in the world. He also added that Svetlana’s activity truly reflected the brand’s core values, which were high standards, strict discipline and excellence.
Born in the Ukrainian city of Lutsk, at the age of 10
Svetlana Zakharova entered Kiev Ballet School and began her studies in
Valeriya Sulegina’s class. When she was 15, she became the youngest participant of the
Vaganova-Prix Young Dancers’ Competition. In spite of her age, she was bestowed with the second prize and afterwards admitted to the third year of studies at the
A.Y. Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet.
After graduating from the Academy, Zakharova started to perform in the
Mariinsky Theatre Company, where her bright talent was again highly appreciated: by the following season she had been appointed a soloist.
Svetlana asserted herself as a new star of Russian ballet, when she still was an Academy student: she brilliantly debuted as the
Mistress of the Dryads in
Don Quixote, performed in
Mariinsky Theater. The part of
Maria in
The Fountain of Bakhchisarai was her second important work.
Dancing the part of
Giselle was Zakharova’s first major success. Neither audience nor critics let her performance go by unnoticed. Under impression,
Vladimir Vasiliev invited the talented dancer to perform in the Bolshoi Theatre.
Alongside with her activity in the Mariinsky Theatre, Zakharova started successfully demonstrating her talent on the stages of Paris, Munich, New York, Buenos-Aires, Tokyo, London. One of the brightest events in her career was dancing in

Paris Opera in 2001: she was the first Russian ballerina to dance at this great Theater in a French production after a thirteen-year long “iron curtain” period.
No matter where she works,
Svetlana Zakharova happens to be an incarnation of pure style of the Russian school of ballet.
In 2008, she was conferred the title of

The famous watch manufacturer
Rolex is also an owner of another watch-making firm
Tudor. Until recent time, Tudor has stayed in the background. Within the last couple of years, however, the company asserted itself by manufacturing new products and running a powerful advertising campaign.
This watchmaker’s creations are mostly characterized by
sporty style. Unveiled at
Baselworld 2009, the
Tudor Hydronaut II watch is currently the best model across the spectrum of the brand’s sportive watches.
The Hydronaut II watch demonstrates a
41 mm steel case, which size coincides with that of a Rolex counterpart. Its design, however, is totally different from that of Rolex watches. It is explainable by the fact that Tudor’s products are aimed at the consumers, who lead a sportier lifestyle.
This timepiece accommodates an
automatic mechanical chronograph movement. Additionally, it provides
200-meter water-resistance. This very feature makes the watch extremely reliable. It is not intended though for professional divers.
Assembled with a sapphire crystal, the
fully polished watch case is fitted with a black, red and white unidirectional bezel. The
dial, performed in black, is accented with touches of silver, red and white. The counters, located at 3 and 6 o'clock, serve to indicate chronograph minutes and hours. The counter at 9 o'clock position shows small seconds – the central hand reveals chronograph seconds.
The adjustment of the date, which is indicated at 4 o'clock, is accomplished by the crown, placed at 10 o'clock. The crown at 3 o’clock corrects timekeeping. The chronograph start, stop and reset pushers are located at 2 and 4 o'clock.
Both pushers and crowns are screw-down to ensure the necessary level of water-resistance.
The model is secured to the wrist on a
black rubber strap, finished with a folding Tudor clasp.

The famous watchmaker
Richard Mille has inaugurated its new flagship boutique in Beijing. This impressive store sprawls out to cover 260 square meters of space in the
5-star Legendale Hotel, located on
Jin Bao Street. This area is considered to be a symbol of European elegance and luxury, placed in the center of China’s capital.
Due to this magnificent flagship store’s advantageous location,
Sparkle Roll Group Limited, the exclusive dealer of Richard Mille in China, avoided expenses in the course of its creation.
45 million HK dollars was invested in establishing this boutique: it implied providing raw materials, watch displays and more. All the equipment, necessary for fitting the store, was delivered from Paris.
The hotel facade reminds that of the 17th century architecture of Southern Europe. On the contrary, the
Richard Mille’s interior looks extremely up-to-date with the black color, dominating in the design of the store. In fact, the bold combination of the old and the new is a true incarnation of the brand’s spirit.
Many objects in the boutique’s interior borrowed the elements from the original design of the timepiece. Thus, arches dressed in black leather prevail in the main seating area; the watch displays are tonneau-shaped; the
3-dimensional etched glass windows make a signature throughout all Richard Mille boutiques.
The amazing blend of dark ebony, black leather and engraved glass contributes to the special charm of the
Richard Mille collections.

Designed in an austere and elegant manner, the case of
Oris-made Artelier Alarm watch offers an exciting surprise to its owner. In the very heart of the case there is a
diminutive alarm, represented by a sound spring.
In the 1940’s, the luxury watch manufacturer
Oris earned its fame by producing alarm clocks, so the brand is not a newcomer to this field of watch-making industry. However, the alarm function, offered by this wrist-sized model, is a stunning innovation in the world of horology.
Equipped with its own display and red point hand, the
alarm function is governed by one of the stainless steel crowns, placed at 4 o’clock. Activated through the simple touch of a button, the watch’s complicated movement is an eloquent demonstration of the Oris major specialists’ prowess.
The function always comes first with
Oris watches. Practical, yet fashionable, the
Artelier Alarm watch with its
silver/grey guilloche dial, housed in a
multi-piece stainless steel case, produces an effect of timeless quality. The rose gold finished indices, as well as rose gold plated hands, featuring Superluminova treatment, are extremely exquisite and graceful.
Nestled at 2 o’clock, the second stainless steel crown drives the traditional timepiece functions, with the
date display at 6 o’clock position.
