Newly Designed Dials for Eterna Vaughan Big Date Watches

Oct 27, 2008
This autumn, Eterna, a traditional Swiss watchmaking company, is unveiling two new dial designs created for the brand's Vaughan Big Date line. One dial design is created in anthracite, while the other one in off-white.

In 2007, the Vaughan Big Date line, featuring classically elegant watches equipped with Eterna's own movements, marked the company's return to the refined art of fine watchmaking. The Eterna 3030 calibre provides the unique big date display.
Now, the Eterna Vaughan Big Date reveals a rose-gold case, an anthracite dial coupled with a brown alligator leather strap.

The stainless-steel version of the Eterna watch reveals an off-white dial. The timepiece goes on a black or brown alligator leather strap. The dial of the watch is convex to match the lens-shaped movement. The elegant dial is completed with subtle minute markings, purely-designed indices and straight dauphine hands.

The big date display of the Vaughan Big Date provides a fast-to-act date function switching over in less than a second at midnight. A great advantage of the movement is that the switch mechanism allows the watch's owner to adjust both the time and date over twenty-four hours. The units disc turns automatically the tens disc in the date display as required. To come up with a slim-line movement, the Eterna engineers have elaborated a ball bearing-mounted date disc, having integrated gear toothing.
To manually adjust the date, it is necessary to twist the crown, with one complete turn adjusting the date by two days.

Being shaped as a lens, the Eterna 3030 calibre features a convex profile on both sides. The two discs of the date display are perfectly united into the movement's cambered surface. The discs are designed as two concentric cambered rings, rotating side-by-side. The automatic movement, providing big date display function, boasts to be the slimmest in its class.

The Eterna 3030 calibre has been developed to guarantee remarkable longevity.

The clock, being over three-meter high, reflects the contemporary spirit of all Richard Mille timekeeping creations. It draws attention to the structural beauty of fine mechanics.

Richard Mille's astronomic clock displays a range of complicated features. The list includes the following: a second time zone, a perpetual calendar, a constant force winding system, and an equation of time indicating the difference between mean solar time and civil time.

The Republic and Canton of Jura commissioned Richard Mille to create a one-of-a-kind clock for Quebec, to represent a token of friendship and pay tribute to a shared French-speaking culture.

The clock was unveiled at an official presentation ceremony held at the Francophone Summit in Quebec on October 18 - 19. Everyone interested may see the remarkable creation on permanent display at Montreal's Bibliotheque Gabrielle Roy.

Richard Mille has already participated in a number of other horological projects. In 2007, Richard Mille unveiled a unique Planetarium Tellurium developed in cooperation with renowned watchmakers Robert Greubel and Steven Forsey.

Gerald Genta Octo Place de l'Etoile Watch

Oct 22, 2008
The Octo Place de l'Etoile is a new stunningly designed timepiece from Gerald Genta. The timepiece has been inspired by Paris and its renowned Place de l'Etoile that surrounds the Arc de Triomphe, from where twelve famous Parisian avenues extend forth, forming a rigorously symmetrical pattern. One of the avenues is the Champs Elysees.

The daring jewellery watch has majestically united shapes, colours and materials, making one feel the brand's avant-garde spirit. The avenues stretch in a vanishing perspective in the direction of the jumping hour aperture that was deliberately positioned at 11 o'clock. The avenues alternate between diamond-paved and enamel-coated motifs, extending over onto the bezel, clearly inspired by the cobbled streets of Paris.

The Gerald Genta Octo Place de l'Etoile watch accommodates a self-winding movement. The mechanism provides the jumping hour display found at an unexpected angle, as well as the retrograde minutes inscribed over a 180 degree arc foundon the bezel.

The innovative jewelry watch is housed in a considerably sized octagonal red gold case that measures 39 mm in diameter.

The strap of the Octo Place de l'Etoile watch is worth special attention. Its color matches the mauve dial. The strap is produced from Aqualino, a watersnake leather featuring scales reminding paving stones.

The Gerald Genta timepiece is also available in all black-and-white version: the white gold case, and dial featuring white diamond and black enamel motif, secured to the wrist on a black crocodile leather strap. This variation, introduced in 2007, became the first to pay tribute to Paris, having marked the inaguration of Gerald Genta's flagship store located in Rue de la Paix.
