Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph from Montblanc

Aug 13, 2009
Dubbed after the chronograph’s inventor, Nicolas Rieussec, the MB R100 was the first Montblanc-made caliber, presented by the company earlier this year. Rieussec’s technique of two rotating disks inspired the design of the novel chronograph.

The Monopusher Chronograph case, measuring 43 mm in diameter, is sculptured in either 18k white, yellow or red gold or 950 platinum.

The model is animated by an adorned manual winding movement, opened to view through a sapphire case-back. The movement demonstrates twin barrels, ensuring a 72-hour power reserve.

An open date wheel, located at the dial top, displays the day of the month. Two chronograph sub-dials are placed below: the first is intended for chronograph seconds and the second one is meant for chronograph minutes. The central hands serve to indicate hours and minutes.

The chronograph function is governed by an iconic column-wheel with a vertical, almost wear-free disc clutch. Thus, the chronograph function can be always turned on.

The hallmark of this model is presented in its unique pusher, placed at 8 o’clock, which is used to start, stop and reset the chronograph.

Pressing the pusher for the first time starts the second disc, the second press stops the time measure: the data can be read afterwards from the second disc and the 30-minute sub-dial. Pressing the pusher for the third time resets the two discs to zero.

The Montblanc Star Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph watch has been issued in limited series.

An alliance between the jewelers’ unrivalled art and the creative power fine watchmaking is characterized by, the Bestiaire Ronde Seconde Folle line unveils three charming products, encouraged by the most famous and adorable “beasts”.

Every model from Boucheron Bestiaire Ronde Seconde Folle collection exposes a 42 mm case, rendered in 18-karat white gold. Both jewelers and goldsmiths of Boucheron used this precious metal as a canvas to create the unique “pictures”, with their whimsy sides accentuated.

The precious gems, such as diamonds, sapphires of several colors, tsavorites as well as rubies are brought together to give birth to appealing images of a hungry chameleon, a happily dazed frog and a sleepy owl.

Every watch movement comprises a specialized module with a rotating disc, which substitutes the conventional small seconds hand, animating the Boucheron animals.

The chameleon, for example, “fixes” its gaze on a fly, which revolves right below the white gold branch. The same mechanism creates the turning left eye in both the frog and the owl models and eventually lends a very refreshing touch to the watches in question.

Crafted in 18K gold, the dials feature diverse, yet extremely attractive chalcedony, aventurine or rich lacquer coatings.

The watches from Boucheron Bestiaire Ronde Seconde Folle line accommodate the mechanical movement, executed entirely by the renowned Swiss watch-making house Girard-Perregaux. The same movement animates Boucheron's Reflet XL Automatic model, boasting a 40-hour power reserve.

The Calibre GP 4000 captivating details, embracing a complex skeletonized winding mass and bridges, featuring Cotes de Geneve decoration, as well as a special stripped motif, are visible through the Boucheron's signature elliptical sapphire display in the case-back.

Jaquet Droz Introduces its Unique Timepiece at Only Watch '09

Aug 06, 2009
The horological company Jaquet Droz has manufactured a unique watch to be introduced at the Only Watch 2009 charity auction.

This exceptional model exposes a white ceramic case with a diameter equal to 44mm and a red enamel dial. The latter reveals off-centered hours and minutes as well as a large seconds counter.

It is interesting to note that the right color of the ivory enamel dial is attainable by means of applying about 10 layers. Each of them should be fired at 800°. For you to compare, black color requires 15 layers and 15 firings, blue color needs 18 or 19, while the red color can be achieved with 22 layers. Each layer coated presents a new complication and every time it is exposed to firing there appears a risk of both breakage and bubbling.

According to Jaquet Droz CEO, Manuel Emch, it took the company six years of dedicated work to finally stabilize the red color. This completely red dial has been fabricated by Jaquet Droz for the first and, perhaps, the last time. The reason for that is an uncommon reaction of the red color to the firing, which results in a lot of breakage.

The exceptional Jaquet Droz Only Watch 09, the grande seconde ceramique, hommage Geneve 1784, Ref J003036207, is animated by an in-house 2663 caliber automatic mechanical movement, set with 30 jewels. The movement features a balance wheel moving back and forth at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a lengthy 68-hour power reserve, ensured by double barrels.

The Jaquet Droz watch boasts 30-meter water-resistance. This model is accompanied by a natural white rubber strap finished with a stainless steel folding clasp.

Big Bang Red Devil II Model from Hublot

Aug 04, 2009
The Swiss watch-making house Hublot is continuously extending its activity in the Chinese market. This time the company arranged a showy and extremely generous event, aimed at supporting the Hope Foundation through one million dollar donation.

Other reasons for the event to be held were the opening of the brand’s store in Hang Zhou, as well as the release of the Red Devil Big Bang’s second edition together with Manchester United team.

The horological company Hublot invited some of the best Red Devils players to run the risk of taking part in the competition that was supposed to test even the most unrivalled shooting skills. This adventure occurred on that very day, when the company’s first shop was opened in Hang Zhou at the prestigious department store “Hang Zhou Tower” .

Paul Scholes, Ji-Sung Park, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra were entrusted with a task of shooting the ball from the shore of the "West Lake" into a target located at a distance of 16 meters, on a boat.

Hublot promised that every goal scored by the players would be marked with a sum of 250,000 dollars to be transferred to the Hope Foundation. This is an organization, which obtains funds to assist children in China and Hong Kong through creating educational programs.

Jean-Claude Biver, Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill, CEO of Manchester United, were there to support the four players. The enthusiasts, however, taking up such a challenge, finally failed the task. The event was brought to a conclusion by Jean-Claude Biver’s boarding on a boat to bring symbolically the ball in the hole. This action was followed by offering the Foundation 10,000 dollars additionally. The cheque for 110,000 dollars was presented to the actress Miss Lee Xing Jie and the singer Miss Xu Ru Yun, the renowned founders and representatives of the Hope Foundation.

Hublot and the Red Devils, involved in a close cooperation during a season, took advantage of this event to introduce a novel edition of the Big Bang, performed in the colors of the reigning English champions. Sporty and simultaneously refined in its exterior, this novel model will be highly appreciated by fans of both Manchester United and Big Bang.

The watch case with the diameter equal to 44.5 mm is sculptured in 5N rose gold. It is fitted with a black, satin-polished ceramic bezel, demonstrating six titanium H-shaped screws. The timepiece case is assembled with a sapphire crystal, exposing anti-reflection treatment. The watch comes with an adjustable black gummy alligator strap.

The Big Bang Red Devil II watch reveals a matte black micro-blasted dial with red hour markers, yellow motion-work, a 45-minute sub-dial with yellow figures at 9 o’clock position and the "Red Devil" logo, located at 3 o'clock. The dial also demonstrates brilliant black hands coated with a yellow luminous compound. The chronograph hand is performed in red color.

Animated by the self-winding Hublot HUB45 calibre movement, this watch boasts 100-meter water-resistance and a power reserve of 42 hours.

The model is produced in limited series of 99 pieces.

TX Watch Company Unveils its 400 Series Perpetual Weekly Calendar

Aug 03, 2009
TX watch-making house has recently enriched its timekeeping companion spectrum with a novel dress watch - the TX 400 Series Perpetual Weekly Calendar.

TX, a three-year old watch company, which belongs to the Timex Group, is known for its specialization in complicated, high-end quartz timepieces. This watchmaker has marked the latest months with the release of a few supremely attractive models.

The novel perpetual calendar watch is a worthy representative of the brand’s lineup. Similar to the most perpetual calendars, it offers a date function of matchless precision until 2100, accounting even for short months and leap year.

Contrary to the majority of its counterparts, this perpetual calendar utilizes analog quartz technology: it proves to be much more affordable than an automatic perpetual movement.

All available interpretations come with a 316L stainless steel case, measuring 46 mm in diameter.

The case is not oversized: it has rather standard dimensions. Other models from the TX line happen to be much larger. The exterior of this dress watch resembles an iconic Rolex timepiece.

The TX 400 Series Perpetual Weekly Calendar boasts 100-meter water-resistance.
The watch is accompanied either by a genuine leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet.

The model is carefully thought out down to the last detail. Thus, the case, bezel, bracelet, crown and pusher demonstrate a remarkable and quite an expensive combination of polished and brushed surfaces.

This timepiece presents no difficulty in operating. All functions are regulated by either the crown or the single pusher. The non-locking crown turns setting of the time and date into a delightful process: you have just to pull it out and turn. In order to view the month, you have to tap the pusher once. In a few seconds the date hand will reset.

All TX watches are assembled with synthetic sapphire crystals, characterized by a high level of scratch resistance.
