New Cartier Tortue XL Watch with Unique Jaguar Decor

Mar 11, 2011
The new Cartier Tortue XL watch paralyzes the glance by a unique highly-realistic jaguar decor. The timepiece was born due to the use of two artistic crafts - relief engraving and champleve enamel. It will be limited to just 80 pieces.

The dial of the new Cartier watch demonstrates a high-relief engraving incorporating four pieces assembled and adjusted with utmost precision.

The jaguar gives an impression of fur and staring eyes. It was achieved by the craftsman with help of a flat graver, and, then, he pricked them with a slender point-graver. The craftsman also performed another delicate operation to accentuate the volume of the whiskers he chiselled the sides with help of a point graver and then polished them with a rubber.

The engraving and assembly work required more than 60 hours, while champleve grand feu enamelling required 25 hours. The wild cat is depicted in seven shades grey, black, opal-white, mauve, opaque white, and brown- and green-yellows.

The case and dial of the watch are sculptured in 18K yellow gold. The octagonal crown is embellished with a sapphire.

The heart of the Cartier watch is an in-house mechanical manual-winding movement - Calibre 9601 MC.

The new Cartier Tortue XL watch embraces the wrist with a semi-matt black alligator leather strap fitted with an adjustable folding clasp. The precious timepiece is 30-meter water-resistant.
