TAG Heuer Unveils Monaco Twenty Four Concept Chronograph at Baselworld 2009

TAG Heuer celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Steve McQueen’s iconic watch by the creation of new exclusive Monaco models. The new timepieces have been unveiled at Baselworld 2009. One of the unveiled timepieces is a sophisticated concept watch - the Monaco Twenty Four Concept Chronograph.

The Monaco Twenty Four Concept Chronograph watch is a new groundbreaking timepiece clearly inspired by Le Mans endurance race-cars.

The watch demonstrates a one-of-a-kind tubular design, having incorporated unique shock-protected components to guarantee the watch will withstand even a 20-meter fall!

Paying tribute to the 24 of Le Mans, the black-textured dial of the TAG Heuer watch features an oversize "24" at 12 o'clock. It is also distinguished by the iconic blue and orange colors of Gulf Oil, the colors worn by Steve McQueen in the legendary movie.

The dial also features innovative semi sub-counters positioned at 9 and 3 o’clock. The sub-counters have unique “doubled” hands, with the first part of the hand displaying the minutes and the second part of the same hand passing under the upper dial.

For perfect readability, the face of the watch is protected by curved scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass provided with anti-reflective double-sided treatment.

The new Monaco watch, reviewed by watches.infoniac.com, has a polished black PVD-coated case, 40.5mm in diameter.

The case accommodates the exclusive TAG Heuer Calibre 36 movement, suspended within an “energy manifold” steel-tube housing and seen through the dial and the sapphire crystal case-back. This principle strongly reminds a driver’s protective cockpit cage of a race-car.

The components inside the case of the timepiece
are further isolated with help of shock-absorbing “composite filter” material that is applied in the fields of aerospace and car racing. The manifold arms are responsible for collecting vibrations and directing them away from the movement and into the composite filter that absorbs and disperses their energy.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Twenty Four Concept Chronograph watch is also fitted with an innovative centrifugal system, with the three arrows on the annular oscillating weight displaying its working rotation. The oscillating weight is produced from industrial-grade tungsten and reminds of a GT car's chrome mags.

The timepiece is 100-meter water-resistant.
