Leonardo DiCaprio Opts for TAG Heuer Watches

Aug 25, 2010
The story of TAG Heuer and Leonardo DiCaprio started in 2009, when in January the watch company and the famous actor and environmental activist signed a three-year agreement and Leonardo became the brand’s newest ambassador.

The royalties generated from the partnership have been donated to support the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Green Cross International, found on the list of the world’s most influential and effective environmental organizations. The actor also makes multi-million dollar donations to support environmental charities.

As the actor characterizes the brand, ‘TAG Heuer is a strong brand with a proven commitment to doing good’. Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO and president of TAG Heuer, characterizes the actor as a man who helps to change the planet and helps children in need by contributing his skills and wealth to make the world a better place.

Leonardo DiCaprio participated in the brand’s “What Are You Made Of” ad campaign, wearing the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Day-Date watch on his wrist. DiCaprio’s watch features a 43mm polished steel case with a domed antireflective sapphire crystal over the dial and a sapphire crystal case-back. It boasts 100-meter water-resistance. The black aluminum bezel demonstrates a tachymeter scale.

You will notice the chronograph hour sub-dial located at 6 o'clock, the running second sub-dial at 9 o'clock and the chronograph minute sub-dial at 12 o'clock, while the large day-date window is found at 3 o'clock. The celebrity watch guarantees great legibility under any light conditions as its hour and minute hands are provided with luminescent markers.

Fans of Leonardo DiCaprio have most probably noticed him wearing another TAG Heuer watch in the movie Inception. The actor wears the TAG Heuer Carrera Automatic watch featuring a steel case coupled with a steel bracelet and a black dial. The timepiece is animated by a Calibre 5 automatic movement, with the date window found at 3 o'clock and the time indicated by luminous, diamond shaped hands.

DiCaprio also wore a TAG Heuer Carrera Automatic Chronograph watch on a leather strap on a number of premieres of the movie Inception.

This year, TAG Heuer and Leonardo DiCaprio have joined efforts to create the Aquaracer 500M Leonardo DiCaprio Limited Edition watch. The money raised from selling the watch will again support the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Green Cross International.

The new TAG Heuer watch catches the glance by its electric blue dial featuring crisscross lines inspired by the earth’s meridians. The dial is completed with hand-applied indexes and the TAG Heuer logo, as well as the NRDC logo at 6 o’clock. The date window with magnifying glass is positioned at 9 o’clock.

The dial of the celebrity watch is framed by a unidirectional turning bezel in fine brushed steel completed with fine-brushed stainless steel numerals. The 43mm case is sculptured in fine brushed steel with polished edges. It is presented on a blue rubber strap featuring a checkered pattern and the brand’s logo. There is also a choice of a three-row steel bracelet. Both strap and bracelet are fitted with a solid steel clasp, diving extension system and safety push buttons.

The case construction of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer 500M Leonardo DiCaprio Limited Edition watch is 500-meter water-resistant and incorporates a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with antireflective treatment on the front, a scratch-resistance sapphire case-back, and an automatic helium valve at 10 o’clock.

The Tag Heuer- Leonardo DiCaprio cooperation is sure to live on and bring about new remarkable projects and timepieces.
