For a long time, automobiles have been a source of ceaseless inspiration for the design of Ralph Lauren remarkable imepieces. For 2011, the brand is excited to announce its new Sporting watch - the first model, encouraged by his personal car collection.
The new Ralph Lauren watch is instantly identifiable due to its matte brown dial, crafted from elm burl wood. It brings to mind the refined interior of the company’s 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe model. Both the dial and the bezel are accentuated by functional screws.
The watch face features a contrasting central part, performed in matte black galvanic. The display comprises beige Arabic numerals, inlaid with luminous compound. They are kept company by an open railroad-style minute graduation, printed in white.
Taking care of hours and minutes are centralized sword-shaped hands. Shiny black oxidized, they are tipped with a coat of beige luminescent compound, which ensures the outstanding visibility when light becomes darkness.
Marking a passage of seconds is an arrow-shaped hand, clothed in shiny white. It glides smoothly over a closed railroad-style track, printed on the extremity of the sub-dial at 6 o’clock. Protecting the dial of the new Sporting watch is a convex sapphire crystal, treated with external and internal colorless anti-reflective coating.
The functions described are driven by a hand-wound mechanical caliber RL98295 movement, manufactured by IWC for Ralph Lauren. It consists of 156 individual parts, including a balance wheel with screws and a Breguet-style spiral. Featuring a vertical Cotes de Geneve pattern and a perlage decoration, the caliber oscillates at the rate of 18,000 vibrations per hour and offers a 45-hour power reserve.
The mechanism finds a natural home in a polished/brushed steel case, which measures 44.80 mm in diameter. At 3 o’clock it exposes a winding crown, marked with the brand’s logo - RL initials. The water-resistance of the case is assured down to 50 meters.
The new Ralph Lauren watch is coupled with a black calf leather strap, which evokes a black leather seating in the company’s prized vintage automobile. The strap is finalized by a polished/brushed steel pin buckle.
