Ulysse Nardin is further exploring the field of applying most innovative and revolutionary materials into high-end watchmaking. Now the brand is using silicon (silicium) in the production of a limited edition version of its highly-appreciated Sonata watch.

Ulysse Nardin Sonata Silicium Limited Edition watch is one more remarkable timekeeping creation to be unveiled at Baselworld 2008. The timepiece has incorporated a number of components that have been developed in close collaboration with ASRH - the Swiss Association for Horological Research.

The new Sonata watch is equipped with a sophisticated self-winding movement - calibre UN-67. The mechanism has incorporated silicon components in the escapement, including the hairspring, which is due to receive a patent. The dial of the timepiece is also crafted in silicon.

The Ulysse Nardin Sonata Silicium Limited Edition watch will be available in a limited series of 300 pieces in both 18K rose gold and 18K white gold.

Following the steps of the non-limited Sonata watch, the complicated self-winding movement provides an innovative 24-hour alarm function with cathedral gong, a display for a second time zone, and a large date display to be adjusted in either direction. An additional advantage of the model is a 42-hour power-reserve.

The eye-catching silicon dial of the Ulysse Nardin watch features the second time zone, countdown and alarm counters at 6 o'clock, 10.30 and 1.30 respectively. The double date window is found at 4 o'clock.

The 42mm case construction, with anti-reflective sapphire crystals on both front and screw-down back, is secured to the wrist on a stylish crocodile strap fitted with an 18K gold pink or white folding clasp. The model guarantees 30-meter water-resistance.
