A collaborative project between Richard Mille and Rafael Nadal, the novel RM 027 watch has been tested in real conditions of the tennis world. The brand has been promoting the idea of weight reduction since the time it was set up. According to Richard Mille, at first, tourbillons with titanium and alusic cases and carbon baseplates, manufactured by the company, were not very popular with watch enthusiasts. According to their opinion, a model in titanium could not be considered a luxurious watch, since it didn’t weigh enough. However, their perception of a luxurious watch has gradually changed and the extreme lightness of Richard Mille watches made the brand synonymous to the cutting-edge technology.
The movement baseplate of the RM 027 Tourbillon watch is produced from Titanium and LITAL alloy. It represents a high lithium content alloy with a density of 2.55, which contains aluminum, copper, magnesium and zirconium. The presence of Lithium in the alloy assures a high level of durability without extra weight. As a result, the weight of the watch’s manual-wind movement is just 3.83 grams. The same alloy is employed in manufacturing of Airbus A380, helicopters, rockets, satellites and F1 racing cars.
The RM 027 Tourbillon watch features a case crafted from a composite material, which contains large amounts of carbon. The monobloc back bezel and case-band provide total lightness. The glass, bezel and flange, performed in carbon, are characterized by stiffness and torsional rigidity.
The new Richard Mille RM 027 Tourbillon watch has been launched in limited series of 50 pieces. It is accompanied by an ultra light flexible strap in polycarbonate, extremely comfortable to wear.
