A Lange and Sohne Presents Richard Lange Referenzuhr Watch

Apr 22, 2010
The Richard Lange series from A. Lange & Sohne has been recently joined by a new member, named Referenzuhr. The watch is a worthy successor of the technically exclusive Richard Lange Pour Le Merite watch with fusee and chain, unveiled in 2009. One of the strongest features of the novel A. Lange & Sohne watch is its Zero-Restart function, an innovative seconds hand resetting mechanism.

The watch manufacture A. Lange & Sohne has succeeded in creating an elegant timekeeping instrument, characterized by remarkable clarity, legibility, accuracy and resistance. This timepiece represents a potential alternative to a chronograph, utilized for measuring independent time sequences of a minute or less.

The Referenzuhr watch has been created with a 40.5mm case, sculptured in platinum or 18-karat pink gold. Faithful to Lange tradition, the platinum case features a brushed central section, polished lugs and a bezel. The pink gold interpretation, meanwhile, is entirely polished.

Shielded by the subtly curved anti-glare sapphire crystal, the solid silver dial of the new A. Lange & Sohne watch reveals an off-set small seconds hand, performed in blued steel. Located just across the resettable seconds hand, the power reserve display indicates how much charge is left in the movement's mainspring. The Roman numeral hour track and perfectly polished alpha hands in gold emphasize the watchs superb elegance.

Additional delights await the watch owner through the sapphire crystal exhibition case-back. It provides a fascinating insight into the manufactory-made manually-wound movement - L033.1 Calibre. The movement incorporates 276 individual parts, embracing those ones, which established the brands artistic virtuosity amongst the elite of watchmakers. These components include German silver bridges, perfectly chamfered and polished steel parts, and a hand-engraved balance cock.

At the same time, the movement is a marvel of reliability and precision. This is eloquently proved by the exposed winding train, the accurately interacting system of steel levers which control the zero-restart mechanism, as well as the large balance wheel. The last-mentioned element is equipped with eccentric poising weights and an in-house manufactured balance spring. This remarkable mechanism runs at the rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides a 38-hour power reserve.

The issue of the A. Lange & Sohne Richard Lange Referenzuhr watch will be restricted to 50 pieces for platinum edition and 75 pieces for the pink gold one. The watches will be teamed with the finest quality crocodile leather straps, fitted with a massive prong buckle in the appropriate material. Each buckle will be engraved with the Lange signature.
