In 2009, the Girard-Perregaux R&D 01 collection welcomes a newcomer the R&D 01 Chronograph Monte Carlo 1983 watch. The aesthetically appealing and technically advanced timepiece pays tribute to a car constructed specially for rally competitions and named Lancia 037. The new watch commemorates the Monte-Carlo Rally 1983 when Walter Rohrl and Christian Geistdorfer won the two first places driving their Lancia 037 that passed just a-few-months testing.

The sporty stainless steel case of the Girard-Perregaux R&D 01 Chronograph Monte Carlo 1983 watch measures 43mm in diameter. It is remarkable the case was designed by Luigi Macaluso, an avid fan of racing himself.

The case of the timepiece
demonstrates a finely brushed finish and incorporates a domed polished bezel. The specially-protected crown at 4 o'clock is used for winding and setting the timepiece. The left side of the case features one more crown found between the inverted chronograph pushers. This crown is necessary for operating an inner rotating bezel.

The black dial of the Girard-Perregaux watch is adorned with blue and red accents. It features four silver sub-dials. It is completed with bold Arabic hour markers and sword-like hands provided with luminous material for perfect visibility under any light conditions. The elapsed chronograph minutes are shown with help of a large central hand, having a blue arrow tip.

The sub-dials positioned at 3 and 6 o'clock are for showing the day/night scale and the date, respectively. You will notice a discreet "Monte-Carlo 1983" inscription above the date sub-dial.

The design of the numbers, counters and the colors have been inspired inspired by the Lancia 037 car.

The R&D 01 Chronograph Monte Carlo 1983 watch accommodates the Girard-Perregaux designed and manufactured self-winding GP033C0 caliber. With a balance frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the chronograph is able to record independent elapsed-time intervals with 1/8th second precision.

The movement gives an advantage of a 46-hour power-reserve. The case-back of the watch, secured by six screws, reveals a sapphire crystal exhibition window that allows to admire the beauty of the Girard-Perregaux caliber, embellished with Circular graining, Cotes-de-Geneve, and chamfered edges. The case-back is engraved with the number plate of the winners, the name of the car and the names of its drivers.

The timepiece is 50-meter water-resistant. It is coupled with an alligator leather strap fitted with a stainless steel deployant buckle.

The Girard-Perregaux R&D 01 Chronograph Monte Carlo 1983 watch is available in a limited edition of 250 individually numbered pieces. Each timepiece is presented with a special case featuring the symbol of the "Automobile Club de Monaco".
