S.T. Dupont RAID Watch - Unmistakable Masculine Appeal

Aug 06, 2010
In June, 1985, the French Police Nationale created a special unit RAID in an effort to combat the rising amount of violent crime and terrorism sweeping through France at that time. The name of this organization is an acronym for “Reaction, Assistance, Intervention and Dissuasion”.

On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, RAID initiated the partnership with the French luxury watchmaker S.T.Dupont in order to produce an exceptional top quality model, strictly limited to 500 pieces. The choice of the house is logical, since the manufacturer has a rich watchmaking heritage, which can be traced all the way back to 1872. S.T. Dupont has gathered universal acclaim by launching watches that always mirror its credo to perfection.

The new S.T. Dupont watch catches the glance by its 44 mm hexagonal case, presented on the raised shoulder. Sculptured in 316L stainless steel, the case features surface, alternately finished with shiny micro-blasted polished steel and brushed satin in discreet gunmetal color.

On its front side, the men's watch is assembled with an anti-glare sapphire crystal, which makes scratches virtually non-existent. The screwed-down case-back of the timepiece is engraved with the motto: “Service without fail”. The case is also outfitted with a Diamond Head screw-down crown. Its water-resistance is down to 300 meters.

The brushed matt bezel successfully plays with refined color contrasts. It features a soft satin finish on the outside and a more radical aspect in the area, located closer to the dial, thus lending the watch case a special depth.

The RAID watch reveals an imposing dial, completed with large numerals. The main focus of the display is oversized Arabic numerals at 3 and 9 o’clock. The brand’s emblematic horological features, these figures contribute to the unmistakable masculine appeal of the watch.

The dial is also equipped with sunk markers, designed to ensure its perfect clarity even under poor light conditions.

Keeping the new S.T. Dupont watch perfectly on track is a COSC-certified self-winding movement - ETA 2893-2. This mechanism underwent strict chronometer testing to confirm its particular precision. No matter how long the watch has been worn, for an hour or the whole day, the movement assures perfect chronometric stability. Just as well, it doesn’t depend on the model’s level of winding.

The caliber is embellished with the Coat of Arms of Geneva pattern as well as circular cross sections on the oscillating weight. Adorned with 21 jewels, the movement runs at the rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 42-hour power reserve.

The movement brings to life the essential functions of hours, minutes and seconds. Besides, it animates a 24-hour hand, intended for a second time zone. The latter is featured on the flange with separation of Day-time zones, performed in white and those of Night, dressed in red.

The matt black “soft touch” treated leather strap, exposing grey overstitching, rounds off the perfect look of the watch. The strap terminates in a double pin buckle.

Characterized by clever design and impeccable functionality, the S.T. Dupont RAID watch fulfils all the requirements of the special unit. Black from top to toe, the watch makes a fine match to uniforms of 170 men, the members of the RAID team. The brand’s craftsmen managed to endow the watch with RAID’s true spirit. It eloquently narrates about the highly-qualified professionals’ ability to act silently, with patience, as well as face most extreme situations.
