The dial of the Porsche Design Dashboard P'6612 PTC has been inspired by the dashboard of a Porsche sports car. It is characterized by a clear structure and features the distinctively typical honeycomb pattern. As for the color of the dial, it is created in black and, for the first time, off-white. The dial of the watch is completed with white and red accents enhancing its sporting, dynamic look.
The tachymeter dial for measuring speed reveals the classical Porsche Design typography. The numerals and indices have acquired a light or dark rhodanized-diamond finish and are provided with white Superluminova coating. The Superluminova hands are pointed for the first time for most precise time-reading.
The chronograph function of the Porsche Design watch is highlighted in red, echoed by the red "Dashboard" logo. The three totalizators feature light or dark rhodanized surrounds, accentuating the clear structure of the dial. The dial is framed by a DLC-coated bezel.
The Porsche Design Dashboard P'6612 PTC has incorporated innovative DLC (Diamond-Like-Carbon) technology - the case, the crown, the pushpiece and the titanium strap are coated with DLC. The layers of DLC created during the vacuum-based process have provided the timepiece with a smooth, homogeneous surface that boasts extreme hardness and scratch resistance.
The properties of DLC may be compared to those of a diamond. The coating reliably protects the watch from abrasion and corrosion. Despite DLC coating, the relevant surface structures of the case have remained visible. The new crown has been developed for a better grip.
The Dashboard P'6612 PTC is fitted with a special Porsche Design rotor suggested by the design of a Porsche sporting wheel-rim. The rotor, produced from a coated heavy metal, is secured by polished screws on the high-strength titanium rotor blade. Towards the axis, the rotor is produced from light titanium. The outermost ring of the rotor is produced from a heavy metal. The weight concentration at the outer edge of the rotor results in the optimized energy production. A small amount of movement generates a lot of momentum for the automatic winding mechanism. Everyone interested in the inside life of the timepiece may admire the rotor system and the automatic movement - ETA 2894-2 - through the sapphire crystal plate.
The new Porsche Design Dashboard P'6612 PTC has been unveiled at Baselworld 2008. The timepiece will be available in Porsche Design Stores and specialist shops starting from autumn 2008.
