In 1979, Piaget introduced an originally styled wristwatch inspired by the sport and called Piaget Polo. The timepiece was crafted in gold and immediately became highly demanded among stars. It featured the perfectly integrated case and bracelet and the original alternation between polished and satin-brushed surfaces.
The Piaget Polo watch became a true trend-setter as an all-gold watch that was equally refined and casual. It was destined at those who preferred luxurious lifestyle, and those who appreciated exquisite taste and elegance.
In the 1980s, Piaget promoted the polo game, in particular at Palm Beach, by offering its sponsorship to the World Cup and at present day to the famous USPA Gold Cup. The brand also supported a team of cinema and TV stars, known as Chukkers for Charity, who strived under the Piaget banner to raise funds.
In 2001, Piaget created a new avant-garde version of the Piaget Polo watch that acquired a new silhouette and the dial completed with larger numerals and a date indicator at 6 o'clock.
In 2006, the Piaget Polo collection was joined by new models fitted with the new-generation, self-winding 800P caliber. The brand also introduced the one-of-a-kind Piaget Polo Tourbillon Relatif that housed the 608P movement.
In 2007, the Piaget Manufacture revealed a new Polo watch crafted in combination of white and pink gold and equipped with the first mechanical chronograph movement - the 880P calibre - that was designed, developed and produced independently by the manufacture.
For 2009, to mark the 30th anniversary of the Piaget Polo watch collection, the brand is unveiling the Piaget Polo FortyFive crafted in titanium. Moreover, Piaget is introducing five new anniversary Piaget Polo watches.
Inspired by the design of the original Polo watches launched in 1979, Piaget has created two new white-gold models adorned with brilliant-cut diamonds.
The larger model is fitted with a hand-wound Piaget 534P mechanical movement, while the ladies’ watch accommodates a Piaget 690P quartz movement. The Piaget watches will be available in a limited edition of 150 numbered pieces.
