The independent house of Peter Speake-Marin
has surprised the horological world by launching its new Marin 2 Thalassa watch
. Executed entirely in the manufacture’s ateliers, the Peter Speake-Marin exclusive watch is proposed with a conventional Piccadilly round-shape case, crafted from white gold
. It is 12 mm thick and measures 42 mm in diameter
The case is fitted with pronounced lugs and an alluring diamond-shaped crown. The brand’s esteemed craftsmen have also fitted the model with a transparent sapphire back, which enables its proud owner to admire the intricate workings of the extraordinary hand-finished movement.
This timekeeping companion is adorned with a marvelous dial. It is composed of two parts: a blued hardened steel outer ring
and a transparent sapphire inner display
, which also provides a stunning vision of the movement.
The independent watch company Peter Speake-Marin
has presented its novel timepiece, standing out due to its special design defined by the human skull.
Mr Speake-Marin, famous for his Piccadilly watch line
, was also involved in cooperation with Christophe Claret
and Roger Dubuis
in order to create an exclusive Maitres du Temps Chapter One
It was a special request from the client for a customized watch that prompted Peter Speake-Marin to visualize the "Skulls Concept" watch
for the first time. The customer eventually decided on a different design though, but the watchmaker snatched the idea and got down to creating his own model, he intended to launch as a limited series timepiece.
The Speake-Marin Skulls Concept timekeeping companion will be limited to just 20 items
The watch case
, shaped after that of the Piccadily, boasts a diameter of 40.6mm. The watch is distinguished by a tall polished case-band, strong strap lugs with a special screwed-through bar and a knurled conical crown. The four skulls, sculptured from matte-finished gold, sit against 490 Top Wesselton round brilliant diamond-set background.
The Skulls Concept timepiece is powered by the automatic SM2 caliber
with hours, minutes, and central sweep seconds. This exceptional mechanical movement is also characterized by bridges, crafted in untreated German silver, a swan neck fine regulator, a balance with a Breguet overcoil hairspring and the central winding rotor, executed entirely by Speake-Marin.
The balance wheel beats at the pace of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The "Skulls Concept" watch
features a lengthy power reserve of 72 hours

Master watchmaker Peter Speake-Marin had perfected his skills in London and Le Locle before he founded his own luxury watch brand, Speake-Marin.
In 2006, the watchmaker joined his creative efforts with Harry Winston and the Excenter Tourbillon was born.
The world of watchmaking welcomes the new Speake-Marin Resilience watch
. The novelty boasts an oven-fired, white enamel dial and the signature Piccadilly case that houses an automatic Eros 2 movement offering a five-day power reserve.
The white enamel dial is graced by blued-steel hands and refined Roman numerals. The slim Piccadilly case
is fashioned in stainless steel or 18K red gold.
The pure, bright white enamel dial
has been inspired by the antique pocket watches Peter Speake-Marin
used to restore when he worked for a prestigious restoration house in Piccadilly, London. The dial will maintain its youthful freshness for centuries – the same as the dials of the antique pocket watches that were over a hundred years old, it will never tarnish or change its look, forever keeping its beauty.
