Panerai Presents Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Bronzo 47 mm Watch

Jan 24, 2011
The challenging timepiece market is delighted to welcome the new Officine Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Bronzo 47 mm diving watch. It is a modern interpretation of the model, produced by the brand more than half a century ago for the commandos of the Egyptian Navy.

As its name implies, the extraordinary timepiece is decked out in bronze - CuSn8. This material represents an alloy of copper and pure tin. It offers a strong resistance to corrosion, caused by sea water and atmospheric agents.

The bronze preserves its original warm color, yet with the time it acquires an aged look, achieved due to a patina, which covers its surface.

This patina appears as a result of the material’s reaction to external agents, such as air, humidity, heat and wear. Without affecting the properties of the bronze, it lends the new Panerai watch a unique exterior.

The brushed bronze case measures 47 mm in diameter. The body of the timepiece sports an anti-clockwise unidirectional rotating bezel with polished edges. It features a graduated scale for calculating the time of immersion and a ratchet click at minute intervals.

At 3 o’clock, the case exposes winding crown. It is protected by a bridge, also rendered in bronze. A lever, incorporated into the system, ensures the perfect water-resistance of the crown itself. The water-resistance of the case is down to 300 meters.
Complimenting the case of the new Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Bronzo 47 mm watch is an attractive dial. Its unusual dark green shade harmonizes perfectly with the color of the bronze.

The dial includes dot-shaped hour-markers, inlaid with a luminous compound. They are joined by bar-shaped indexes at 6 and 12 o’clock. Taking care of hours and minutes are skeletonized hands, also coated with luminous treatment. The small seconds are indicated in a counter at 9 o’clock. It is counterbalanced by a date aperture, arranged at 3 o’clock.

The dial is protected by a 4 mm thick glare-proofed sapphire crystal. The company’s craftsmen have also fitted the model with a sapphire crystal back side. The see-through case-back enables the watch owner to admire a complex structure of an automatic mechanical P.9000 calibre movement, executed entirely in Panerai’s workshops in Neuchatel.

With its thickness equal to 7.9 mm, the mechanism is composed of 197 elements. It is artfully adorned with 28 jewels. The movement utilizes a Glucydur balance wheel, moving back and forth at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The caliber incorporates two spring barrels, which guarantee a 3-day power reserve. The movement is also fitted with an Incabloc shock protection system.

Offered in a limited edition of just 1000 units, the new Panerai watch is coupled with the brand’s personalized leather strap. It joins to a massive brushed titanium buckle. The model is delivered with a second interchangeable strap and a steel screwdriver.
