Luminor Chrono Daylight 44mm Titanium - Unique Mixture of Tradition and Innovation

Nov 12, 2008
Panerai has unveiled a new Luminor watch based on the mixture of the highly respected tradition of the brand and its resolutely modern spirit.

The Luminor Chrono Daylight 44mm Titanium is characterized by solid yet light construction. The new model has inherited the signature shape of the Luminor case. The case of the watch measures 44 mm in diameter. It is crafted from brushed titanium. The case features large, straight strap attachments.

The bezel of the watch, featuring the tachymeter scale with engraved numbers, also has brushed finish but with polished titanium edges. The titanium case back is held in position with screws. The timepiece provides 100-meter water-resistance.

The case construction also incorporates the signature Luminor lever bridge, the development patented by Officine Panerai more than 50 years ago. This device not only reliably protects the crown but is also responsible for its water-resistance when the watch is hand- wound or adjusted. The lever bridge keeps the crown firmly pressed against the case.

You will notice the brushed titanium chronograph-controlling push-pieces at 2 and 4 o'clock. The push-pieces are designed to be quick to operate. The date corrector is positioned at 10 o'clock.

The Panerai watchmakers have opted for titanium to be used for the watch's case and innovative bracelet as the material provides hardness along with extreme lightness. The new Luminor has been crafted from grade 5 titanium, implying a much more complicated surface finishing process. A great advantage of the material is that it is hypo-allergenic. Moreover, it is temperature- and corrosion-resistant, a vital characteristic in a watch to be frequently in contact with sea water.

The blue dial of the Luminor Chrono Daylight 44 mm Titanium is completed with hour markers and Arabic numerals coated with luminous material, the same as the hour and minute hands and the smaller hands in the sub-dials. The continuous seconds sub-dial is positioned at 9 o'clock, the chronograph hour counter is found at 6 o'clock, and the minute counter is at 3 o'clock. The date function is presented via a window at 4.30.

The dial is reliably protected by a 2.5-mm-thick anti-reflective sapphire crystal, resistant to great depths.

The Panerai Luminor Chrono Daylight 44mm Titanium goes on an innovative bracelet that is worth special attention. The brushed titanium bracelet features polished surface between the links, creating the same play of contrast as the one between the case band and the bezel.

The links of the bracelet are asymmetrical and are horizontally and vertically rounded. The bracelet is perfectly integrated with the design and surfaces of the case. It is designed to guarantee exceptional comfort of wearing. If the watch owner wishes so, he can easily replace the bracelet by a traditional rubber or leather strap as the timepiece is available together with a special tool for changing the bracelet and a steel screwdriver.

The new Panerai Luminor watch accommodates an exclusive automatic movement, the Panerai OP XII Calibre. The 27-jewel movement incorporates Incabloc anti-shock device. It boasts a PANERAI personalized oscillating weight and Cotes-de-Geneve decorated bridges. It provides a 46-hour power reserve. The precision of the movement, operating at 28,800 alternations per hour, is approved by the COSC-chronometer certificate given after the strictest tests that lasted 16 days.
