IWC Unveils New Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil Watch

Jan 31, 2013
IWC is pleased to unveil its new Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil watch devoted to the legendary Mercedes-Benz racing car – the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow W25 (with Silver Arrow translated in German as “Silberpfeil”). The design of the novelty has been inspired by the illustrious car. Its heart is a highly efficient in-house movement.

The new IWC watch catches the glance by its circular-grained dial presented in silver or brown. Circular graining, also known as “perlage”, represents a cloud-like pattern of tiny overlapping circles often used on plates and bridges. The circular graining on the dial of the watch pays tribute to the legendary W25 that featured the dashboard instruments with a circular-grained surround. The circular graining creates a nice play of light and reflections.

The red details on the dial reflect the design of the tachometer and revolution counter. The date display is a part of the bottom counter. So, the dial pleases the eye by its ideal symmetry.

The inner life of the Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil watch is managed by the efficient in-house 89361 calibre. The 38-jewel mechanism is operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. It allows reading of stopped hours and minutes as simply as the time on a separate sub-dial. The stopwatch hand in the center records short stop times of up to a minute. Along with the tachymeter scale, this functionality offers the speed at which a reference distance of 1,000 meters is completed.

The flyback function allows measuring short time intervals – when you press the reset button, the chronograph seconds hand jumps to zero and at once starts another timing sequence. There is no need to successively press the stop, reset and start buttons.

The 68-hour power-reserve is provided by the enhanced Pellaton winding system with the automatic double-pawl winding mechanism that is 30 per cent more efficient in comparison to the one created by Albert Pellaton. It is important to mention that the accuracy of the timepiece is not affected by the chronograph running or activating the flyback function.
The 45mm case is rendered in stainless steel. The case-back reveals an impressive engraving of a historic Silver Arrow racing car.

The new IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil watch is teamed with a specially designed wristband with a brown leather inlay. It has been inspired by the sturdy leather straps that used to enjoy great popularity in the 1930s. The novel strap is made of top-quality calfskin bonded with hardwearing rubber on the inner surface. The designers of the strap have skillfully united the elegant leather look with the comfort and durability of rubber.

The timepiece may be also coupled with a stainless-steel bracelet fitted with a fine-adjustment clasp.

The novelty is a limited edition of 1,000 pieces for each version – with a silvery or brown dial.
