New F.P. Journe Octa Perpetuelle Watch

Jun 11, 2009
The F.P. Journe Octa collection of automatic timepieces welcomes a new member that happens to be the eighth in the family. The new timepiece provides the prestigious perpetual calendar complication. It has been created to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the brands first boutique in Tokyo. By the way, number 8 is associated with good fortune among Asian people.

The timepiece will be available in an extremely limited edition of just 99 pieces worldwide.

The case of the new F.P. Journe Octa Perpetuelle watch, 40mm in diameter, is sculptured in titanium. It is 10.6mm tall. Boasting a more sophisticated mechanical nature, the new watch has the same thickness as other timepieces in the Octa collection.

The ruthenium-finished dial is crafted from gold. The right part of dial demonstrates applied silver sections with off-centered hours, minutes and seconds. There is also a curved retrograde date scale in the left part, as well as the calendar indications presented via rectangular windows, with the upper one showing the day of the week, and the lower one showing the month abbreviation and the leap year.

The F.P. Journe Octa Perpetuelle watch, reviewed by Watches.InfoNIAC.com, accommodates the exclusive FPJ 1300-3 caliber, synonymous to technical and aesthetic perfection, visible through a sapphire crystal exhibition window in the case-back.

The movement incorporates the F.P. Journe signature bridges and plates crafted in 4N 18K rose gold. The 271-part self-winding movement has all the screw heads polished and with chamfered slots. The movement wheels are circular grained and diamond-molded.

The 18K gold bridges are embellished with the exclusive Cotes-de-Geneve pattern, and the plates with circular graining. The balance wheel of the timepiece operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. It has four adjustable inertia weights, so the watchmaker can regulate the movement with high precision. The long mainspring is supplied with energy by an off-centered unidirectional winding rotor found on ceramic ball bearings, so the movement provides a 120-hour power reserve.

The Octa Perpetuelle is created to be really easy to operate. A special position of the winding crown allows the correction of the date, day and month. There is a pusher at 8 o'clock to allow the watch owner easily advance through months when the watch is being set for the first time.

The F.P. Journe Octa Perpetuelle watch debuted on May 29th presentation held in the Tokyo boutique. The timepiece
will be also presented in the brands boutiques in Paris, Geneva, Hong Kong, Boca Raton, New York, and Beijing.
