Louis Moinet Presents Nelson Piquet Chronograph Watch

Apr 24, 2013
Louis Moinet introduces its new Nelson Piquet Chronograph watch. The novelty represents a sporty-styled, two-pusher automatic chronograph. It is devoted to the legendary racing driver Nelson Piquet, a three-time Formula One world champion.

The new Louis Moinet watch demonstrates a number of racing-inspired characteristics:

  • a driver-friendly rubber strap,

  • top-visibility hands,

  • a tachymeter scale featured on the bezel rendered in high-tech steel and carbon fibre,

  • chronograph pushers with carbon fibre insets and embellished with chequered flag motif,

  • engravings on the tinted sapphire crystal case-back evoking Nelson Piquet in his prime.

The dial and functions of the Nelson Piquet watch are aimed at matching the needs of racing drivers and motorsport fans.

The dial provides supreme legibility - its bright counters, bold hands and numerals create a distinctive contrast against the navy blue background. The rhodium-plated hour and minute hands are filled with white Super-LumiNova glowing green in the dark.

The small seconds sub-dial is found at 9 o’clock. The blued chronograph seconds hand in the center is complemented by a 30-minute counter positioned at 3 o’clock and 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. The counter hands are presented in blue. The Louis Moinet logo is found at 12 o’clock, while Nelson Piquet’s signature completes the dial at 5 o’clock.

The lower part of the dial is adorned with Geneva wave finishing inspired by the vertical grill design featured by historic racing cars.

The case design of the Nelson Piquet watch reflects fresh developments in motorsport technology. The six-screw, stainless steel case, 45.60mm in diameter, is built with a high-tech, carbon-fibre lower bezel. As it has already been mentioned above, carbon fibre is also used for the inserts for the chronograph pushers positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock. The pushers, shaped as champagne corks, are engraved with a chequered motif inspired by the signature Formula One finish-line flag and offer most comfortable gripping.

The case is 50-meter water-resistant.

The timepiece is animated by a Louis Moinet automatic mechanical chronograph movement. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the 25-jewel movement provides 44 hours of power reserve. The exhibition case-back allows to admire the movement’s nicely finished plates and bridges and an open-worked, black rhodium-plated, ball bearing-mounted rotor, with the design reminding that of a high-performance car brake disc.

The new Louis Moinet Nelson Piquet Chronograph watch is presented on a natural rubber strap equipped with a stainless steel double folding for the ultimate comfort on the wrist.

The Nelson Piquet is available in a limited edition of 365 pieces. The novelty is delivered in a deluxe case featuring black, carbon fibre-inspired interior. The case also contains a beautiful 95mm x 70mm reproduction of a watercolor painting of Nelson Piquet in his Brabham and Williams cars created by the famous motorsport artist Willy Richard.
