Meet New Nautical Seventies Vulcain Trophy Limited Edition Watch

Aug 05, 2013
Vulcain presents its new Nautical Seventies Vulcain Trophy Limited Edition watch.

The novelty is a tribute to the iconic Vulcain Cricket Nautical model unveiled in 1961. It gained a legendary status in the horology and deep-sea diving worlds as the first diver’s watch that boasted 300-meter water-resistance and was animated by an alarm movement truly audible underwater – it warned the diver that it was time to the surface. In 1970, the brand introduced a new version of the diver’s watch with a redesigned display.

The new Vulcain watch, limited to just 100 pieces, demonstrates a resolutely vintage look, having maintained the identity codes of the 1961 and 1970 models, yet using the latest technical innovations. It is 300-meter water-resistant and indicates the successive decompression stops.

The heart of the Nautical Seventies Vulcain Trophy is the brand’s manually-wound Cricket V-10. The finely crafted 157-part, 25-jewel mechanism sounds its alarm in a clearly audible way for up to 20 seconds underwater. It is constructed with twin barrels – one barrel for supplying the energy for the hour, minute and seconds functions, and the other barrel for powering the alarm function. Operating at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, it offers a 42-hour power reserve.

The same as the initial models, the 42 mm case, crafted in 316L steel, is enhanced with alternating polished and satin-brushed finishes. The case-construction boasts the signature triple case-back – it is used as a resonance chamber for the alarm function to guarantee utmost performance. One more advantage for the function is a hesalite watch glass – the same material was featured by the 1970 model for amplifying the sound.

The case-back is engraved with the Vulcain Trophy inscription.

The dial of the new Vulcain diver’s watch represents a blue re-edition of the 1970 model. The central dial indicates decompression details in blue. It stays fixed in place, while the 60-minute graduated rotating inner bezel ring is switched on with help of a screw-locked 4 o’clock crown. The dial provides supreme readability even in the dark due to luminescent hands and square hour-markers.

The new Nautical Seventies Vulcain Trophy Limited Edition watch is teamed with a comfortable and sturdy black and blue strap in water-repellent leather and fitted with a steel pin buckle.
