A. Lange Sohne Unveils 1815 Moonphase Homage to F.A. Lange Watch

Feb 21, 2010
The 1815 Moonphase watch has been hugely popular with admirers of the renowned A. Lange & Sohne watchmaker. Faithful to flawless classicism, the brand powered this horological creation by a luscious manually-wound in-house movement. Created in the best Glashutte traditions, the model was issued in a limited edition of 250 and 150 units, sculptured in pink gold and platinum correspondingly.

The A. Lange & Sohne watch’s particular highlight was presented by an appealing moon-phase indicator, distinguished by matchless exactitude: just 1 day of error to occur in 1,058 years. Of course, this remarkable series was snatched up in no time. Later on, some of the 1815 Moonphase watches were auctioned off at very impressive prices.

In 2010, A. Lange & Sohne is proud to unveil a new version of the 1815 Moonphase watch. As its new name suggests, "Homage to F.A. Lange", it pays tribute to the founder of the Lange dynasty. Watch connoisseurs have been extremely excited about the launch of this novelty, which boasts the identifying features of its predecessor, along with an array of innovations.

The 1815 Moonphase “Homage to F.A. Lange" watch is crafted in a new 18-karat gold alloy, appropriately named “honey gold “. This high-grade material is remarkable for its hardness, which exceeds the hardness of gold and platinum alloys, commonly employed in manufacturing of watch cases.

The new breathtaking timekeeper from A. Lange & Sohne reveals a dial, which represents a subtle meeting of astronomic intrigue and conventional beauty. Similar to all Lange dials, it is performed in silver. In the center, the dial is embellished with a radiating guilloche motif, whereas its outer sector, completed with Arabic numerals for hours and a railroad minute track, demonstrates satin finishing.

The moon phase indicator is centered in a dark blue star-sprinkled field, which is in perfect harmony with blued steel hour and minute hands, as well as that of the small seconds counter. The A. Lange & Sohne watch is equipped with a special corrector, located on the side of the case at 10 o’clock, which allows simple and fast synchronization of the moon phase complication.

The A. Lange & Sohne major specialists have fitted this marvelous timepiece with a sapphire crystal case-back. It enables the watch owner to admire enchanting details of the L943.2 caliber movement. The brand’s iconic three-quarter bridge in German silver is a special proud of the watchmaking house. The movement also exposes decorative motifs introduced instead of the traditional Glashutte ribbed pattern.

Demonstrating jewels, mounted in gold chatons with trios of blued steel screws, the mechanism is also adorned with special sunburst and solarized patterns. The last-mentioned motif depicts an appealing series of waves.

The company’s signature hand-engraved balance cock is also crafted in 18K gold to match the case. The L943.2 caliber is endowed with a special regulation system: the oversized balance wheel with its weighted gold screws now houses the brand’s proprietary hairspring. The movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, providing a 45-hour power reserve.

The A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Moonphase “Homage to F.A. Lange" watch is teamed with a luxurious crocodile leather strap. It is finished with a buckle in 18K honey gold, engraved with the Lange signature.

The A. Lange & Sohne watch will be released as a limited series of just 265 pieces.
