MCT Sequential One - Innovative Way of Time-Telling

Dec 19, 2008
MCT - Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps - creates watches based on the latest technology and the richest horological traditions.

While reflecting the fundamental values of Haute Horlogerie, MCT watches feature bold innovations and challenging designs. MCT watches are synonymous to “Art in Evolution,” finely mixing refined beauty, practicality and tradition. The timepieces are equipped with an in-house MCT movement and are sure to be highly demanded among passionate watch collectors.

MCT Sequential One captures attention by its avant-garde design. The timepiece is distinguished by its completely innovative way of time-telling.

The design of MCT Sequential One required many hours of research and development. The watch reveals an original and simple time display. The oversize hour numerals are found on triangular prisms, while the minutes are found on a delicate brushed sapphire disc.

The hours are displayed at four positions on the watch, with each position comprising 5 triangular prisms, rotating clockwise to show the hour. The operational sequence of the timepiece is easier to understand with help of the points of a compass:

  • At the North position (taken as 12 o’clock position), on the relevant hour, the hours 12, 4 or 8 are to be displayed,

  • At the West position - the hours 1, 5 ,9,

  • At the South position - the hours 2, 6 and 10,

  • At the East - the hours 3, 7 and 11.

The minute hand and sapphire disc play a crucial role. Precisely, on the hour the brushed sapphire disc is instantaneously released and rotates anti-clockwise to show the next hour numeral, while the minute hand is now positioned exactly at zero minutes, ready to start its next 60-minute journey round the disc.

Although such way of time-telling may seem complex when being described, in fact the time is absolutely easy to read.

Eric Giroud, a famous Geneva-based specialist in movement architecture, is responsible for the architectural design of the watch. Eric has managed to design a true masterpiece of complex simplicity: different elements of the timepiece turn on three axis, at precise times performing very distinctive movements. The brushed sapphire minute disc features opacity, clearly demonstrating the minutes, and allows the watch’s owner to admire the delicate rotation of the hour prisms.

The case back of MCT Sequential One reveals the beauty of the MCT in-house movement. The mechanism fascinates by its traditional Cotes-de-Geneve finish, enhanced by the bridge angles and polished screws.

The hand-wound mechanical movement comprises 471 components. It guarantees a 40-hour power-reserve.

The seconds are indicated to prove the movement’s regularity and its overall refinement. MCT specialists designed a one-of a-kind energy storage system, taking account of the dial’s weight and geometry, to provide energy for powering the brushed sapphire disc movement, on the hour. The disc is re-set with help of an oversize anchor.

The 45mm square-shaped case of MCT Sequential One offers extreme comfort of wearing on the wrist. The case, both powerful and gentle, is crafted in pink gold or white gold, and has the face protected by curved sapphire glass with anti-reflection treatment.

The unique case construction incorporates the thin layer of sapphire crystal, carefully sandwiched between the two casing elements, providing the watch with an extra visual dimension and allowing light to penetrate the movement.

The timepiece is 30-meter water-resistant. It embraces the wrist with a hand-sewn alligator leather strap with a gold, double clasp.

MCT Sequential One is available in four strictly Limited Edition versions, 99 pieces for each version.
