Jaeger-LeCoultre Presents Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication Watch

Sep 29, 2010
Jaeger-LeCoultre is proud to unveil its novel Grand Complication timepiece to join its prestigious Master Grand Tradition line.

The Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication watch boasts three horological complications: a minute repeater, a flying tourbillon and a zodiac calendar, each corresponding to the highest horological standards.

The three complications are not simply accommodated in the platinum case – they are intertwined in a truly sophisticated way. The creators of the timepiece have managed to interpret astronomical timekeeping for the wrist. The pulsing heart of a flying tourbillon performs rotations around the dial that demonstrates a sky-chart of the Northern Hemisphere.

The tourbillon is not counting the passing minutes of the official 24-hour day – instead, it is counting the time of the Sidereal Day that is about 4 minutes shorter than the solar day. You will notice a tiny sun rotating around on the outer spheres of the dial, showing zodiac signs and an indication for the 12 months. The sun is responsible for indicating our ‘official’ time - Mean Solar Time.

The heart of the highly complicated Jaeger-leCoultre watch is the brand’s novel mechanical manually-wound movement - Calibre 945 constructed from 527 parts, all assembled and adjusted by a single watchmaker. The flying tourbillon incorporates an advanced silicium-escapement, developed particularly to be used within an ultra-light titanium cage.

The timepiece also boasts an innovative minute repeater born due to five years of research. The minute repeater has the sound generated by a unique ‘crystal gong’ system, with form-improved gongs attached to the watch glass. It is also built with a new striking mechanism named ‘trebuchet hammers’ – it is responsible for delivering 80% additional power to that of common gong mechanisms. As a result, the timepiece provides a remarkably clear and harmonious full sound – you just have to push the slider mechanism.

The 49-jewel movement, operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, offers a 48-hour power reserve. Its parts are finished to meet the highest of watchmaking standards.

The classically shaped platinum case of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication watch measures 44 mm in diameter and is presented on an alligator leather strap fitted with a folding clasp. It is 50-meter water-resistant. The highly exclusive timepiece will be limited to 75 pieces.
