A. Lange Sohne Ursa Major - Join Fine Horological Traditions

Mar 27, 2008
When the legendary A. Lange Sohne brand reappeared on the horology stage in 1994 after almost a half-of-a-century absence, it caused a real sensation. Top-quality German watches based upon well-maintained traditions were forecasted to enjoy great success and the timepieces have even surpassed the most optimistic expectations.

Walter Lang, grandson of the brand's founder, Ferdinand Adolf Lange, managed to reconstruct Lange Uhren GmbH Company in 1990. As a result, the company's most talented and watchmakers, devoted to precision workmanship cherished by Adolph Lange, involved into developing luxury wristwatches featuring not only traditional quality but also new technical achievements.

The revived A. Lange Sohne Company attracted attention of watch collectors and aficionados, as well as simple customers in search of a luxurious and reliable timekeeping device. The 'Made in Germany' timepieces of the brand also enjoyed well-deserved success abroad, especially in Italy and America.

The initial A. Lange Sohne watch collection appeared in 1994. It comprised four extremely elegant models - Lange I, Saxonia, Arkade, and Pour It Merite provided with the tourbillon complication. These timepieces were followed by the introduction of 1815 and Cabaret Langematik lines. At present day the A. Lange and Sohne Company is found on the limited list of few manufactures producing its own movements. Datograph, Saxonia and Cabaret are among the most notable A. Lange Sohne watch models.

A. Lange Sohne Ursa Major is a man's watch created in the most refined style. It is quite a big-sized model with 18K-white-gold 11.3-mm thick case measuring 41.9 mm in diameter - still the watch is no way bulky.

The slightly curved sapphire crystal of the watch is treated with anti-reflective coating. The transparent sapphire crystal case back allows to admire the beauty of the movement.

The white gold date-corrector pusher is located at 10 o'clock, while the white gold crown is found at 3 o'clock.

The perfectly round bezel of the A. Lange Sohne watch frames white face. You will immediately notice the depiction of the famous constellation Big Dipper inside the off-centered hour and minute counter positioned at 9 o'clock.

The constellation is featured with rhodium-plated gold cabochon. The hour and minute counter is completed with printed minute markers and Roman numerals for 3, 6, and 9. All the above-mentioned details are crafted in rhodium-plated gold including the hands.

The A. Lange Sohne Ursa Major spotlights the brand's patented Big Date with rhodium-plated bordered double windows. It is remarkable that the two numbers in each window are run individually on a two-disc mechanism.

The power reserve counter is found at 3 o'clock, while the small seconds with Northern Hemisphere moonphase is located between 4 and 5 o'clock. Although the watch's face demonstrates a number of additional features, it is still really elegant. The timepiece is secured to the wrist with a comfortable leather strap.

A. Lange Sohne watches are destined at customers who value traditionally styled items characterized by remarkable quality. A. Lange Sohne watch on your wrist will give you the feeling you are joining the history of horology.
