At Baselworld 2011, the Russian timepiece manufacture
Konstantin Chaykin was proud to unveil its
new Lunokhod watch. Meaning “Moonwalker”, when translated from Russian, it pays tribute to the Russian unmanned space programme in charge of sending up robotic lunar rovers. The latter were scheduled for landing on the Moon between
1969 and
1977.
The main asset of the new Konstantin Chaykin watch is an impressive interpretation of the
Moon, skillfully placed in the center of its face. The Moon is 12mm sized and boasts a relief of the lunar surface. The image of the magnificent celestial body is fitted with a silver hemispherical cover. Rotating over the surface, it acts as the Moon’s shadow and indicates moons-phases.
The time on the surface of the
new Konstantin Chaykin Lunokhod watch is told in a 24-hour format by means of one of two small hands (half-moon or sun-shaped), gliding over a 24-hour scale. Bellow the moon-phase indicator the user can see a seconds counter.
