Konstantin Chaykin Hijra Watch - Charm of Eternally Young East

Feb 02, 2011
The competitive horological world heartily welcomes the new Hijra mens watch - an amazing creation from the Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin.

A member of the prestigious Academy of Independent Watchmakers (AHCI), this master has made his name with exceptional models, equipped with various calendar systems. They include an astronomical table clock with perpetual calendar and Orthodox Easter date indicator as well as a table clock with retrograde indicator of the Muslim calendar dates.

The new Konstantin Chaykin watch catches and holds the gaze with a built-in Muslim calendar mechanism. A chief attribute of the model, it indicates days of the week, dates and months. The Muslim calendar is of a lunar type. Built only on the change in lunar phases, it does not depend on the motion of the sun.

The lunar month lasts from the appearance of one new moon to the following, that is 29 days 12 hours 44 minutes and 3,8 seconds. Thus, some months have 29 days and others consist of 30 days. The year in the Muslim calendar has 354 or 355 days. The Muslim chronology starts in the year 610, when the Prophet Muhammad began his sermonizing activity.

The new Konstantin Chaykin Hijra watch resembles a miniature mosque. It has adopted a 45 mm case, designed in the spirit of respect for Arab architectural traditions. Crafted from stainless steel, the body of the timepiece evokes the eternally young East, burning gold of sand and azure coolness of oases. On its front side, the case is armed with a top-grade sapphire crystal. The latter is encircled by a mesmerizing bezel, embellished with an arabesque decoration - an irresistible combination of geometrical and floral motives.

The same ornament adorns the middle section of the silver-plated display, which is in charge of moonphase indication. The watch hands portray a delicate design, which mirrors unrivalled traditions of Muslim architecture. The hour hand is performed in the shape of mosque dome, while the minute hand is made in the form of minaret. The hand of the Muslim calendar date indicator is tipped with a crescent, the most known religious symbol of Islam. All the hands are made of steel and polished by hand.

The side face of the timepiece is stylized under the column hall of a mosque - avian. The golden inserts are marked with the names of Allah and prophet Muhammad. The model is also equipped with a transparent back cover. It features an inscription from Koran, which sounds like that, It is He Who made the sun to be a shining glory and the moon to be a light of beauty, and measured out stages for her; that ye might know the number of years and the count of time.

Inside the incredible timepiece is hidden a hand-wound EVA 01 movement, entirely manufactured in the brands workshops. It is 7.3 mm thick and measures 31 mm in diameter. Decorated with 21 jewels, it operates at a frequency of 21, 600 vibrations per hour and offers a 48-hour power reserve.

A customized alligator leather strap completes the features of the new Konstantin Chaykin watch.
