For the fourth time,
IWC Schaffhausen provides its support to the
Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The company unveils a special edition watch - the new Portuguese Automatic, the iconic IWC watch that boasts distinctive design and supreme functionality.
The timepiece follows the steps of the Portuguese Chrono-Automatic watch created to support the Foundation in 2006, the Pilot Watch Chrono-Automatic in 2007 and the Da Vinci Chronograph in 2008.
The
IWC Portuguese Automatic Edition Laureus Sport for Good Foundation watch is offered in a limited number of 1,000 pieces. The timepiece is powered by a
mechanical IWC-in-house 51011-calibre movement, with a Pellaton winding mechanism that provides a 7-day power reserve. The movement animates a large-format date, as well as a small seconds hand and an indicator for the power reserve presented via separate sub-dials.

In 2009,
IWC Schaffhausen has enlarged its iconic Ingenieur collection with a new sophisticated model - the Big Ingenieur Chronograph. The timepiece accommodates the brand’s in-house chronograph caliber with Pellaton double-pawl winding mechanism.
The
complex case of the
IWC Big Ingenieur Chronograph watch, 45mm in diameter, is made of stainless steel, 18K rose gold, and platinum. The platinum version of the timepiece is limited to 250 pieces.
The case construction demonstrates a heart-winning union of brushed finish and refined polished accents, featured by the tachymeter bezel, and the lug edges. The screw-down winding crown is protected by twin guards.

IWC Schaffhausen has enlarged its iconic
Aquatimer family of diver’s watches with a collection of new models. The recreated timepieces are bold from both technical and aesthetical point of view. The new collection has just been unveiled at
SIHH 2009.
The
IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 watch boasts remarkable water-resistance: as suggested by its name, it is 2000-meter water-resistant. The black dial of the watch is framed by a black external rotating bezel with the distinctive luminous 15-minute segment in yellow. The same color is used for the minute hand indicating the dive time.
The brand has also created another variation of the model that features a white dial with orange or white numerals presented on a white or dark blue rotating bezel. One more distinction is an orange hour hand.
The IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 watch is equipped with the
30110 calibre automatic movement. The timepiece is presented on either a stainless steel bracelet or a rubber strap.

Adventure Ecology founder
David de Rothschild and a unique expedition.
Adventure Ecology has selected leading scientists, adventurers, sailors, and creative personalities to join the
Plastiki expedition. This summer, the crew will sail 10,000 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean. They will sail in a
one-of-a-kind 60-foot catamaran built from plastic bottles, srPET plastic and recycled waste products.
The Plastiki boat will pass through regions suffering from extreme ecological threats, including the largest rubbish dump in the oceans, named The Great Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch.
To commemorate Adventure Ecology’s bold expedition, IWC Schaffhausen unveils a special
limited “Adventure Ecology” edition of the Ingenieur Automatic Mission Earth watch.

In 2009,
IWC collection of highly complicated watches has been joined by a fresh variation of the
Portuguese Minute Repeater watch. The recreated watch boasts supreme elegance of the design and sophisticated mechanical movement.
The creators of the timepiece have come up with a new position of a
subsidiary seconds sub-dial - it has been shifted from 9 to 6 o'clock. The new version of the IWC watch also demonstrates a case slightly bigger in diameter – now it measures 44mm in diameter. The case of the watch is crafted from 18-K gold or platinum.
The IWC watch features an
elegant silvered dial completed with applied Arabic numerals, polished leaf-shaped hands, and a railroad minute track. The dial is protected by antireflective sapphire crystal.

The latest step of
IWC Schaffhausen's expanding horizons in exclusive brand boutiques was the June 1st opening of a store unit in
Hong Kong's Kowloon chic shopping district.
This event took place shortly after the Swiss watchmaker had announced a project of this kind in
Singapore's ION Orchard shopping venue, planned to be open in July, 2009.
According to IWC, its leading boutique in Hong Kong will provide customers with a vast experience in brand lore, history as well as distinctive features.
IWC's watch collections are displayed in thematic rooms, designed in accordance with the unique idea each product’s creation is based on. For instance, the Portuguese and Da Vinci timepiece collections are exhibited in a "Classic Lifestyle Wing" with a luxurious Navigator's lounge tailored to create the yacht’s environment.
The aviation-suggested
IWC Pilot's Watch Classic and
Pilot's Watch Spitfire collections are showcased in a
Sports Lifestyle Wing, which reminds of an officer's mess area.
For the atmosphere to be even more convincing, IWC displays aviator jackets made of buffalo leather. Besides, the visitors can try a
Spitfire aircraft flight simulator.

The Vintage Portofino Hand-Wound watch pays tribute to the brand's famous Ref. 5251 watch, produced in limited numbers in the late 1990s. The Ref. 5251 Portofino watch was equipped with an old IWC pocket watch movement, the Caliber 9521. The original IWC Ref. 5251 represented an impressively large, yet deliciously flat watch. IWC Schaffhausen is to offer at auction an exceptional,
platinum version of the UTC Edition Antoine de Saint Exupery watch. The timepiece will be auctioned together with an original, signed copy of Saint Exupery's famous memoir
Wind, Sand and Stars.
IWC's on-line auction will take place between December 8th -14th. The
starting price is 39,000 US dollars. The money will be donated to the
French Sipar association, a non-governmental group fighting illiteracy in Cambodia.
The platinum
IWC Pilot's Watch UTC Edition Antoine de Saint Exupery reveals a tobacco brown dial. The watch is secured to the wrist on a rugged leather strap fitted with a platinum tang buckle.
The timepiece shows off two distinguishing details - Antoine de Exupery's "A" initial on the dial, and a commemorative case back with an engraved Latecoere 25 aircraft and the number 01/01.
The IWC watch accommodates the
self-winding 30710 caliber, providing a secondary time zone display, sweep seconds and the date.
According to
Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, the timepiece has been created in respect for Antoine de Saint Exupery as a pilot and is not simply a piece of jewelry aimed at cosmopolitans. Ng Chin Han was sported wearing an
IWC classic Portuguese Chrono-Automatic watch at the premiere of
The Dark Knight held on July 14th, in New York City.
In the movie, the 38-year old Ng Chin Han played the role of Hong Kong mobster Lau. The premier was also attended by the
co-stars - Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman. Chin Han admitted he was really pleased to have worked with such a great cast.
Before his work with Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan and the breakthrough role in the movie, Ng Chin Han played a range of supporting roles in a variety of independent movies. Chin Han has also applied his talent of the director in plays and musical adaptations. The actor was first presented to Singapore audiences in 1994, when he starred in the English TV drama 'Masters of the Sea'.
