The creators of the timepiece have come up with a new position of a subsidiary seconds sub-dial - it has been shifted from 9 to 6 o'clock. The new version of the IWC watch also demonstrates a case slightly bigger in diameter – now it measures 44mm in diameter. The case of the watch is crafted from 18-K gold or platinum.
The IWC watch features an elegant silvered dial completed with applied Arabic numerals, polished leaf-shaped hands, and a railroad minute track. The dial of the timepiece
is protected by antireflective sapphire crystal.
The new IWC Portuguese Minute Repeater watch, reviewed by watches.infoniac.com, is animated by a hand-wound movement - the IWC Calibre 98950. The sophisticated nature of the movement is revealed through the sapphire exhibition case back. The movement is built from 205 individual components, having maintained distinctive features of the legendary Jones calibers housed by IWC pocket watches.
The movement operates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour and provides a 46-hour power reserve.
The fine minute repeating mechanism gets activated when it is necessary when the lever on the case is operated. The hours are chimed on a low note, quarter hours on alternating high-low notes, and every individual minute with an individual high note.
The IWC Portuguese Minute Repeater watch will be available in a limited edition of 500 pieces of each version - crafted in 18K red gold and platinum. It is secured to the wrist on a hand-sewn alligator leather strap fitted with IWC-signed folding buckles crafted in gold or platinum.
