IWC Big Ingenieur Chronograph Watch

Jun 30, 2009
This year, IWC Schaffhausen has unveiled a new member of its iconic Ingenieur collection - the Big Ingenieur Chronograph. The timepiece boasts the brand’s in-house manufactured chronograph caliber with Pellaton double-pawl winding mechanism.

The sophisticated, angular case of the IWC Big Ingenieur Chronograph watch is sculptured in stainless steel, 18K rose gold, and platinum and measures 45mm in diameter. The platinum variation of the timepiece is available in a limited edition of 250 pieces.

The case construction reveals a nice union of extensive brushed finish and refined polished accents, featured by the tachymeter bezel, and the lug edges. The screw-down winding crown is reliably protected by twin guards.

The black dial of the watch has a central part embellished with a brick-like pattern. The time is shown by polished baton-shaped hour and minute hands. The dial is completed with hand-applied hour markers filled with luminous material. The chronograph sub-dials at 6 and 12 o’clock enhance the harmonious appeal of the watch. The dial also features applied “Ingenieur” and “IWC Shaffhausen” logos. The sub-dial for continuous small seconds features a small window for the rapidly-adjustable date.

The IWC Big Ingenieur Chronograph is animated by the manufacture 89360 caliber, providing an innovative chronograph complication, with a flyback function and an analogue display of elapsed time up to twelve hours. The chronograph hours and minutes display is presented via the upper sub-dial. The movement provides a 68-hour power-reserve.

The screwed case-back of the IWC watch, reviewed by Watches.InfoNIAC.com, has a sapphire crystal exhibition window that allows to admire the majestic architecture of the IWC movement, with its fine decorative elements.

The IWC Big Ingenieur Chronograph watch is delivered on a black or brown alligator leather strap fitted with a brushed tang buckle in stainless steel, rose gold, or platinum, featuring the engraved IWC insignia. The timepiece is 120-meter water resistant.
