Patek Philippe Star Moon Tourbillon Watch at Patrizzi&Co Auction

Sep 28, 2009
On October 7th, in the city of New York, Patrizzi & Co Auctioneers will unveil "Important Pocket Watches, Wristwatches and Clocks". The key focal point of the event will be some unique timekeepers to be presented by the Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe.

About 200 of exceptional watches will be introduced in the course of this very auction, which is going to open the fall/winter season. It is the first event of the kind in a series of auctions planned to be held in Geneva, Milan and New York.

The auction will take place at Patrizzi & Co, 595 Madison Avenue, Suite 605. Buyers will have an opportunity to make their bids through phone, in written or online through the company’s website - The showroom will host a preliminary exhibition on Saturday, October 3rd from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Just as well the company timepiece experts will devote this period of time to making assessments and taking items for future auctions.

In the course of the auction the buyers will not be charged a commission, which is not typical for most auction houses. This commission usually constitutes from 20 to 25 percent savings from the hammer price.

A series of unique watches, manufactured by Patek Philippe, will be in prime focus of the sale.

Featuring two faces, the Sky Moon Tourbillon watch, Ref. 5002, happens to be the brand’s most complicated creation.

Sculptured in 18k yellow gold, this timekeeping companion demonstrates a black dial. The model offers the functions of the perpetual calendar and that of a minute repeater, equipped with a tourbillon escapement. The reverse side of the watch, meanwhile, exposes a sky chart as well as a sidereal time.

Patek Philippe will also put up for an auction two sets of men's watches, issued as a limited series. The distinctive flair of these models lies in their dials, embellished with a cloisonne enamel.

Manufactured in 2004, the "Barques" watch, Ref. 5076, was restricted to 10 sets only.

Every timepiece, powered by a hand-wound movement, is rendered in platinum and demonstrates a different sailboat. Each of four "Birds of Paradise" watches, Ref. 5075, is crafted from 18k white gold. These watches were produced in a limited series of just 15 sets.

According to Osvaldo Patrizzi, president and chief executive officer of Patrizzi & Co ,this auction is expected to draw international attention, since the most exclusive watches will be put up for sale within the framework of the event mentioned.
