The celebrated Swiss watch-making house Girard-Perregaux, an avid supporter of classical music and other performance arts, happened to be a partner of the Moritzburg Festival, which was held within a period of two weeks in Dresden, Germany. The event in question was brought to a conclusion on Thursday, July 23rd. The Moritzburg Festival takes place every summer. Its rich program embraces numerous chamber music performances: lots of them come around in the most scenic historic buildings in Dresden, such as Moritzburg Castle and the renowned Frauenkirche cathedral, which welcomed a recital of organ works, performed by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1736.
Heartily received by the Festival organizers as well as Dr. Wolfgang Schauble, Federal Minister of the Interior for the German Republic, the American composer John Harbison was honored to be a Composer-in-Residence for the 2009 season.
This horological company enjoys a close bond of friendship with cellist Jan Vogler, the musical director for the festival. The famous Swiss watch manufacturer Girard-Perregaux will undoubtedly take its devotion to the arts to the 21st century due to the company’s ongoing relationship with this outstanding musician.
