Piaget Altiplano Eccentric Small Seconds - Watch of the Year 2008

Nov 03, 2008
Piaget 'Altiplano Eccentric Small Seconds' has been declared the Watch of the Year 2008, under the guidance of the 'Montres Passion' magazine. The hearts of the jury members were won by the watch's ideal design, refinement and pure lines. Moreover, the timepiece is equipped with a superb extra-thin movement.

Philippe Leopold-Metzger, Piaget's CEO, was proud to receive the trophy at an award ceremony held on 28 October in Geneva. The event was attended by local officials, and more than 500 representatives of the world of watchmaking.

The IWC 'Da Vinci Vintage Automatic' won the second prize, while the third prize was won by the Rodolphe 'Instinct Basic 4851 Four Time Zone'.

The Piaget 'Magic Hour' was named the Ladies Watch of the Year. The Jury's Special Prize was awarded to the 'Diane, minute repeater' and Sandrine de Laage, Harry Winston Deputy Head of Design got the award.

Professionals from the watchmaking sector were invited to the jury, chaired by Kenan Tegin. The winner was selected from forty finalists chosen from more than a hundred new models introduced on the Swiss watch market in the period from September 2007 - December 2008.

As suggested by the tradition, the forty finalists were unveiled to the public through a competition on a dedicated website. The visitors of the website could give their vote for their favorite models in the period of 29 September - 19 October.

The Perrelet 'Diamond Flower' won the highest number of votes, consequently awarded the Swiss Public Prize. The second Watch of the Year ceremony was held in Paris, 30 October. It was attended by the French watch market representatives.

The year 2008 marked the 15th annually-held Watch of the Year Ceremony. The watchmaking event is aimed to reward the best timekeeping creations of the year, considering both their aesthetic and technical characteristics.

The prize was initiated by the Montres Passion magazine, published by Ringier Romandie in Switzerland.
