Jun 19, 2008
The latest auction of Heritage Auction Galleries took place on May 20, in Dallas. 'Fine Jewelry and Timepieces Signature Auction' accumulated 1.4 million dollars on 667 lots. Among the most amazing lots was an extremely rare "James Bond" Submariner Rolex watch that was acquired for 107,550 dollars.

It is interesting to mention that the auction also sold other remarkable lots: a platinum and yellow-diamond ring for 131,450 dollars and a Patek Philippe Men's Gold Ref. 1579 Chronograph Watch with Register circa 1950 for 65,725 , the.

According to auction director Jill Burgum, the auction house received the notable Rolex watch at an Appraisal Day event organized in San Antonio, Texas. They expected the timepiece to bring in between 500-1,000 dollars. Having held some research, they found out that the Rolex watch, a 5510 model circa 1958, represented a very rare piece. In fact, the 5510 model is believed to be the rarest of the Rolex Submariner models.

Author Ian Fleming's James Bond character was wearing the Rolex watch in Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball.

My dad is a huge James Bond fan. I'm planning to buy him a Rolex to add to his James Bond memorabilia although not the exact one he wore. I still need help deciding which model though.
