In 2008, the Rolex Company continues to act as the major sponsor of the prestigious Giraglia Cup, a famous Mediterranean distance race. The race will start in St. Tropez, France. The competitors will be moving through the scenic Iles d'Hyeres and across the sea, then past the Giraglia Rock off of northern Corsica, and on to Genoa, Italy where the regatta will finish. Altogether, they will cover 243 nautical miles.The Giraglia Cup was initiated in 1952. The first race was organized in July, 1953 with 22 yachts taking part. Rolex is famous for its close association with a variety of the most prestigious yachting events through the world. The company has acted as the major sponsor of the Giraglia Cup since 1997.
