'Prix du Design' Award Goes to Hublot Big Bang

Nov 28, 2007
Two years ago the Hublot Company was honored to receive the 'Prix du Design' award for its Big Bang watch creation during the Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Geneve.

Iceberg of Diamonds
In November 2007, the brand has become the winner in the category Jewellery Watch for the one-of-a-kind invisible setting of its timekeeping wonder called 'One Million Dollar Big Bang'. The creators of the Hublot Big Bang wanted to make the material invisible so that nobody could find out whether it is made of red, yellow or white gold. The Hublot timepiece gives an impression of an iceberg of diamonds.

The winners of the Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Geneve were announced in presence of the audience composed of famous personalities from the world of watchmaking. The Hublot 'One Million Dollar Big Bang' was voted to become the winner in the category of jewelery watches.

Hublot Watch's Unique Setting
The jury and the general public were deeply impressed by the unique setting on the watch's case. The timepiece was performed in a remarkable way that was based on a complete fusion between the human hand and micro-mechanical tools.

The angles and lines of the design featured by the Hublot watch are not necessarily considered suitable as a setting for jewels, not to mention invisible setting.

The designers of the Hublot Big Bang watch were bold enough to make their dream come true and face the challenge of creating the watch, having incorporated all their ingenuity, creativity, savoir-faire and a moment of folly. They were initially rewarded when they witnessed the supreme beauty of the completed timepiece. The creators of the Hublot watch were once again rewarded during the Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Geneve.

Invisible Visibility
As Jean-Claude Biver describes invisible visibility of the Hublot creation, every element is finely mastered in its own right, being coherent with the element alongside. This technique creates a real vibration of harmony that reaches the hearts of those looking at the watch. The jury members had a unique chance to perceive and feel the harmony reflected by the Hublot masterpiece of jewelery.

The case, base, crown, dial and clasp of the Hublot 'One Million Dollar Big Bang' were crafted in 18-K white gold, having incorporated the total number of 493 Top Wesselton baguette diamonds:

  • Case: 322 (24.65 carats)

  • Crown: 12 (0.8 carats)

  • Dial: 129 (6.40 carats)

  • Clasp: 30 (3.33 carats).

Inside the watch's case there beats a mechanical manual winding movement with 60-second flying Tourbillon. The mechanism provides 120-hour power reserve.

The Hublot watch goes on a natural rubber strap. Its creation took the Hublot specialists more than 2000 hours of meticulous work.
