HM2-SV Sapphire Vision - Another Horological Masterpiece from Max Busser and Friends

Jan 14, 2010
The watchmaking house MB&F is proud to announce its innovative Horological Machine No2-SV, with SV standing for Sapphire Vision. The watch employs a crystal-clear sapphire case with a back manufactured from titanium.

The distinctive flair of the HM2-SV case is represented by its absolute transparency. It is the feature which enables the watch owner to admire the intricate working of the movement. The watch movement comprises 349 individual parts and demonstrates a remarkable finish, meticulously performed by hand. The movement animates the indications on the watchs signature twin dials.

The whole top half of the watch case is sculptured in sapphire. Inferior only to diamond in terms of its hardness, this material makes scratches virtually non-existent.

Sapphire demonstrates obvious advantages: it is extremely resistant to high temperatures, has zero porosity and its interaction with acids is possible only if the temperature exceeds 300C. However, this material is not frequently employed in manufacturing of watch cases: its incredible toughness makes it very difficult to work with.

For the entire process to be completed properly the watchmakers use sophisticated diamond tools.

The naturally opaque surface of sapphire is painstakingly polished to acquire proper transparency. It is a daunting task of herculean concentration even if it is necessary to model just a plain plate of the watch case size. As to the complex, three-dimensional shape of HM2-SV, including such elements as its bevels, mounting holes, crystal cut-outs and gasket track, the major specialists in this field had to push back the boundaries of sapphire crystal technology to discover new perspectives.

This incredible work has resulted in a breathtaking case, the top part of which is produced from sapphire that is 3.6mm thick. Due to double-sided anti-reflective coating, the HM2-SV case becomes almost invisible. Thus, it provides a stunning panoramic vision of the enchanting details of the movement. The architectural nature of the three-dimensional case is enhanced by eight mounting bolts, traversing the sapphire plate like pillars and passing through the bright blue gasket, which seals two case halves.

The Horological Machine No2-SV has been created due to mastering 21st century technologies. At the same time it demonstrates a meticulous finish, handcrafted in harmony with the noblest watchmaking traditions. This novel product from MB&F represents a subtle meeting of colors, materials, shapes and textures.

The MB&F masterpiece relies on a mechanical movement, developed by the esteemed watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht. Its functionality includes Instantaneous Jump Hour, Concentric Retrograde Minutes, Retrograde Date, Bi-Hemisphere Moon Phase and Automatic Winding.

The HM2-SV has been issued as a limited series of just 25 items. The outstanding watch boasts 30-meter water-resistance. It is accompanied by a black hand-stitched alligator leather strap, fitted with a folding buckle, crafted in 18k white gold and titanium.

The MB&F HM2-SV Sapphire Vision, reviewed by, is offered with an aluminum and leather presentation box, which reveals an integrated Rueger thermometer.
