The timepieces were featured in the collector’s book “Heuer Chronographs” highly popular among vintage Heuer collectors.
In March 2010, Arno Haslinger stunned the world of watch collectors, and TAG Heuer fans in particular, having announced he would be auctioning the whole collection as a way to celebrate the brand’s 150th anniversary.
In addition, TAG Heuer will auction a one-of-a-kind Silverstone watch that boasts Jack Heuer’s signature on the dial. The proceeds to be received from the sale of the timepiece will support Green Cross International, an environmental charity organization established in 1993 by Mikhail Gorbachev. The brand offers its support to the charity cause, having cooperated with its brand ambassador Leonardo DiCaprio.
The sale will also include a few extremely rare TAG Heuer watches. The list is highlighted by a new-old-stock “Steve McQueen” Monaco watch, an Autavia watch that maintained its original tags created for the Argentine Air Force, and a few pieces bearing the signatures of Ferrari Formula 1 drivers Derek Bell and Niki Lauda.
Besides the 81 TAG Heuer watches, Bonham’s will auction 19 lots relevant to the brand, including original advertising displays, racing helmets, and stopwatches. The list even includes a stock note from the original Heuer company.
On October 16-18, Bonham’s showcased the unique Haslinger collection in its New York Madison Avenue offices. No wonder, the exhibition enjoyed great interest from the brand’s fans coming from all over the United States. Many of the visitors asked Haslinger to autograph a copy of his book. The collector walked through his collection with potential bidders, explaining the importance of every piece.
Bonham’s will exhibit the Haslinger Collection at Salon QP in London on November 11-13 and then in the days before the December 15 sale. Everyone interested in the sale can register at Bonham’s and bidding will be received via paddle, telephone, and advance written bid.
