Greubel Forsey Invention Piece 2 Watch - Tribute to Quadruple Tourbillon Mechanism

Jan 25, 2011
Renowned for its significant innovations, the timepiece maker Greubel Forsey has proudly introduced its Invention Piece 2 watch with a quadruple tourbillon mechanism as its focus point. The presentation of the remarkable model took place in the course of the SIHH 2011 trade show.

Two double tourbillon systems are exposed head to tail on an exquisitely balanced dial, designed to have a pleasing effect to the eye. The systems are coupled by a spherical differential.

The face of the new Greubel Forsey watch offers the functions of hours and minutes, indicated in a sub-dial at 5 o’clock.

Pointing to the hours is a red triangle, while the minutes are displayed by means of a rotating disk with a fixed blue triangle. The counter in question features Arabic numerals and a 22k gold Greubel Forsey initials, located in its centre.

Small seconds tick away in a counter, neatly arranged at 10 o’clock. It is joined by a power reserve display, found at 11 o’clock.

Both the small seconds and power reserve indicators are fitted with flame-blued polished steel hands. At 1 o’clock, the dial reveals a tourbillon sapphire crystal indicator, which accomplishes a full rotation in 4 minutes.

The functions, provided by the new Invention Piece 2 watch, are brought to life by a hand-wound mechanical calibre GF03n movement, enriched with patented tourbillon systems. The mechanism has a diameter of 37.0 mm and its thickness is equal to 11.87 mm.

The caliber described incorporates 594 individual parts, 129 of which are employed in the manufacturing of one double tourbillon cage. The weight of the last-mentioned element constitutes 1.17 g.

Adorned with 64 olived-domed jewels in gold chatons, the movement also incorporates a free sprung balance wheel with white gold mean-time screws. It is moving back and forth at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The mechanism offers a 56-hour power reserve. It is ensured by rapid rotating triple barrels, equipped with a slipping spring to avoid excess tension.

The heart of the new model is beating inside a platinum 950 or 18k 5N red gold case. Its measurements are 43.50 mm x 16.28 mm: diameter and thickness indicated respectively. The case features top and bottom asymmetrical convex sapphire crystals. Additionally, it sports a lateral window, assembled with a shaped sapphire crystal. The water-resistance of the model is assured down to 30 meters.

Moreover, the case architecture incorporates a polished bezel and a centre band with hand-finished straight graining. It also boasts gold security screws and a hand-engraved individual number. At 3 o’clock, the case reveals a platinum or 5N red gold crown, engraved with black lacquered GF logo.

Issued in limited edition of 11 pieces in platinum and 11 in red gold, the new Greubel Forsey watch is teamed with a hand-sewn black alligator leather strap. It terminates in a platinum 950 or 18k 5N red gold folding clasp, hand-engraved with the Greubel Forsey logo.
