Glashutte Original Creates Senator Chronograph in XL Size

Jun 17, 2009
In 2009, Glashutte Original presents a larger-in-size interpretation of its elegant Senator Chronograph watch. The new timepiece is aimed at those who need a contemporary timekeeping companion offering the chronograph function and bearing a highly prestigious brand name.

The Glashutte Original Senator Chronograph XL watch will be greatly appreciated among watch aficionados due to its superb craftsmanship. The timepiece
features a 44mm-in-diameter case, while the case of the previously created Chronograph watches measured 40mm in diameter.

The case of the latest version is sculptured from stainless steel, demonstrating a fine and lustrous polish. This finishing contrasts nicely with the matte black dial, displaying a tachymeter scale at its perimeter.

The dial of the Glashutte Original watch wins the heart due to its harmonious, well-proportioned design, with 30-minute and continuous small seconds totalizers positioned at 3 and 9 oclock. The dial is completed with clearly contoured applique hour markers, while the time is indicated by polished, luminous lance-shaped hands. The central chronograph hand features an original counterpoise representing the double-G brand logo.

The dial of the watch is shielded by a scratch-resistant convex sapphire crystal provided with antireflective coating on both sides.

The buttons on the case side allow easy operation of the start, stop, and reset chronograph functions of the timepiece.

The case back of the Senator chronograph XL watch reveals a sapphire crystal exhibition window that makes visible the automatic manufacture Caliber 39-34 that guarantees supreme timekeeping precision. Beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement allows the chronograph function to record independent time intervals with 1/8th second precision. The movement provides 40 hours of power reserve.

The movement demonstrates the signature Glashutte design features, including the three-quarter plate, swan-neck fine adjustment, Glashutte ribbing on the bridges and sunburst decoration on the winding wheels, not to mention a central skeletonized rotor with a 21K gold mass on its outer edge.

The Glashutte Original Senator Chronograph XL watch, reviewed by, is delivered on a black Louisiana alligator leather strap that comfortably hugs its wearers wrist due to exquisitely worked, integrated strap lugs. The strap is fitted with an adjustable triple folding clasp in stainless steel. The timepiece is 50-meter water-resistant.
