Girard-Perregaux Introduces Shadow

Nov 12, 2008
The new Girard-Perregaux Shadow watch catches the glance by its dynamic design. The watch also possesses a sophisticated technical nature, being equipped with the Girard-Perregaux movement offering the imposing combination of a fly-back chronograph and the world time display.

The black ceramic case of the Shadow measures 43 mm in diameter and is characterized by ideally homogeneous texture. The case required a long and meticulous manufacturing process. The case construction boasts not only remarkable lightness but also extreme hardness, implying good wear-resistance. The Girard-Perregaux watchmakers opted for ceramic to produce the case from as it is much lighter than steel, and slightly heavier than titanium. This material, widely applied in the fields of electronics and aeronautics, is absolutely biocompatible and hypoallergenic.

The case has acquired a meticulous satin-finish, eliminating any flaw and emphasizing its shadowy look. The case architecture is structured by graded shadows. The brand's watchmakers used an internal titanium container and special six screws to secure the case-back. The crowns, push-buttons and shortened lugs are rubber coated, accentuating the watch's sporty appeal. The timepiece is 30-meter water-resistant.

The Shadow watch accommodates a remarkable mechanism - the Girard-Perregaux self-winding movement GP03387. The movement provides the simultaneous display of the date, the small seconds, the time in twenty-four different time zones, not to mention a fly-back chronograph. The 63-jewel movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and gives an advantage of a 46-hour power-reserve.

Although it is displaying a variety of functions, the black dial of the Girard-Perregaux watch offers supreme legibility. It is easy to distinguish the chronograph seconds hand by its red color, while the three counters' divisions are created in white. The dial also features a world time day/night indicator and a date positioned at 1.30. Its luminescent hands and Arabic hour numerals enhance the dial's readability.

The case-back of the Girard-Perregaux Shadow is fitted with a tinted sapphire glass, revealing the sophistication of the movement. The watch is secured to the wrist on a black calfskin strap with a folding buckle.
