Meet Zenith El Primero Tourbillon Chronograph Watch

Nov 24, 2010
The watchmaking scene has recently welcomed a mind-blowing El Primero Tourbillon Chronograph watch, manufactured by the house of Zenith.

Boasting a distinguished look, the new extraordinary timepiece is an upgraded interpretation of the Grande Class Tourbillon El Primero model, introduced in 2008.

The new Zenith watch has adopted a 44 mm case, crafted from stainless steel or 18-carat rose gold. It sports a bezel, produced from the same material. The case proudly reveals long lugs and an imposing winding crown, artfully marked with an appealing star symbol. Positioned at 3 o’clock, the crown is joined by two chronograph pushers, featured at 2 and 4 o’clock.

On its top, the case is armed with a box-shaped sapphire crystal, which features a double-sided anti-glare treatment. The company’s esteemed artisans have also used the sapphire glass for the back side of the model. The case is capable of withstanding water pressures down to 10 atm.

The technical perfection of the timepiece is ensured by a manufactory-made self-winding El Primero 4035 D movement, composed of 381 individual parts. Skillfully encrusted with 35 jewels, this caliber features the dimension of 37 mm x 7.55 mm: diameter and height indicated respectively. It incorporates an 18 carat gold or metal oscillating weight, graced with Cotes de Geneve pattern. The movement operates at an impressive frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour and boasts a power reserve of about 50 hours.

This reliable mechanism presented drives the basic functions of hours, minutes and seconds, complimented by those of date, chronograph and tourbillon. They are found on a black or silver sunray dial. The hours and minutes are individually displayed by rhodium-faceted central hands. They are kept company by a thin dark-toned seconds hand.

The hands turn over artistically designed hour-markers and a minute track, printed in black. The indexes are rhodium-faceted or gold-plated and covered with a layer of Superluminova SLN C1. The display of the new El Primero Tourbillon Chronograph watch also ensures chronograph functions, presented through a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and 12-hour sub-dial at 6 o’clock.

The undeniable highlight of the watch face is a tourbillon mechanism, featured at 11 o’clock. Making one turn per minute, the turbillon carriage serves to display small seconds. On its extremity, the carriage also offers a date information.

A useful complication and an aesthetic creation, the new Zenith watch is accompanied by an alligator leather strap, lined with a rubber protection. It can be joined to a triple folding buckle.
