Certina DS1 Automatic Watch - Double Security Concept Anniversary

The first Certina DS1 collection joined the world of watchmaking in 1960 and has enjoyed remarkable success ever since. The year 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the Double Security Concept, indicated by the letters “DS” in the name of the timepieces, as a symbol of top quality and utmost reliability.

To celebrate the anniversary, Certina has created a new DS1 Automatic watch. The limited edition timepiece has smartly united “retro” inspiration with modern spirit.

The famous Double Security Concept represents a unique system of movement protection that was improved by the brand in 1959. Its reliability was proven in a number of scientific expeditions, as an ideal testing ground for the Certina watches. The first DS1 watches were tested in 1960 in the Himalayas.

The new Certina DS1 Automatic watch may be best described as sporty, elegant, and captivating. The satin-finished case features no bezel, thus offering utmost visual opening and clarity.

The anthracite dial with sunburst finishing features fine seconds graduations at the rim. You will notice two perpendicular lines that cross at its centre as a nice harmonious touch. The dial bears an inscription confirming the watch’s limited-edition status. The dial is completed by HM hands and sculpted appliques framed by a raised sloping rim for the minutes. The dial is protected by a rounded anti-reflecting sapphire crystal. The crown bears the traditional logo of the brand.

The see-through case-back allows to drop a glance at an automatic movement that incorporates an oscillating self-winding rotor with “Certina DS 50th Anniversary” engraving.

The new Certina DS1 Automatic watch is coupled with a brown leather strap. Each timepiece features its own individual serial number. It is housed in a special display case, with a certificate of authenticity.
