This year, the horological company Cornelius & Cie took the wraps off its new Chronsome 46 XY Tourbillon watch.
The novelty employs a 44mm x 12mm case, crafted from Damascus steel. Hard and flexible, this material was used for swords. The case is etched with “king’s water” or “aqua regia” highly corrosive acid, capable of dissolving metals like gold or platinum.
Both top and bottom of the new Cornelius & Cie watch are fitted with glare-proofed sapphire crystals. The case provides 30-meter water-resistance.
The model encloses a mesmerizing dial. It reveals an imperial dragon, rendered in solid gold. Cut out and entirely engraved by hand, it was born under the dexterous fingers of the master engraver Kees Engelbarts.
